I believe that suicide is risky, tragic, dangerous, lonely, and a terrible place for someone to find themselves contemplating it.
However, the world is changing, not that quickly, but not slowly either. I believe euthanasia is by far the best way to go. No risk of botched suicides with awful consequences, plus among other things, it guarantees a peaceful death, guided by health professionals that will try to minimise your pain, find cures, and help you decide if you really do want to die, or if it is just a temporary, impulsive decision. You can then choose to die in comfort, without risk of prison, psychiatric wards, and to be able to be with your family and friends in your final moments, in comfort, knowing you will be given the most peaceful death possible, and not unnecessarily putting friends and family through grief that they may never recover from. Families can prepare for one's departure, ask questions, give support, get closure, and reduce the grief they'd otherwise go through.
It will take years for euthanasia to be widely available, but many countries, such as the UK, Canada and many others appear to be on a fairly consistent course towards more and more liberal stances to the controversial issue. More and more evidence is mounting that concerns of abuse, slippery slopes etc, are unfounded, and most populations are increasingly showing greater support towards looser euthanasia laws.
I beg you all to join two subreddits that are geared towards creating awareness of the ethical arguments that support greater acceptance of euthanasia and campaigns geared towards the goal of respecting the choice of people who are suffering and have a persistent wish to die. It reduces impulsive suicides and the detrimental consequences of impulsive suicides, dangerous/risky methods, and all the rest.
There are also other pro-euthanasia campaign groups which you can find on the internet and in those subs, and I recommend you find one campaigning in your country and contribute what you can there. Either by small donations, or sharing their links in social media like facebook, or taking part in demonstrations, or writing letters to politicians expressing your views, or any other number of actions. You can make a difference! Every little helps. And people here have many arguments that could be persuasive, especially given our numbers here.
So please! Join the subs, submit articles, personal stories, statistics, whatever you think will make a difference.
Thank you! Let's get our voices heard and have our right to do with our bodies as we want become appreciated.
