Hi, I plan to (partially) hang myself using a 12MM rope and the rod in my closet. I tested it last night, but the way i did it was standing up completely, used a slipknot, pulled the rope over the beam and pulled down so that it strangled me, rather than hang the rope and kneel down on the floor and lean into it, a partial hanging.

This method (standing up and strangling while i pulled the rope) seemed to be working, my entire face turned red, i was wheezing and coughing, and felt dizzy. But my stopwatch got to 3 minutes before I stopped. Should i continue trying this method and just go for longer without stopping? Will it eventually work? Or should i just do the partial hanging and tie my hands together so I can't stop myself if I wanted (SI), and just wait until I die.

Oh also- Ive seen some of you use doorknobs for partial hangings…. How? 😭 do you recommend it?

Please help me. This will be my third attempt. I don't want to do this anymore. All of my notes are written and are scheduled to be sent in two days.

I'm confused. Were you holding the rope down with your hands whilst hanging? If so, that won't work. Once you lose consciousness you're going to let go of that rope.

To be successful in becoming unconscious without a ridiculous amount of pain, the carotid arteries need to be targeted. You can successfully hang while still being able to breathe at that point. It's cutting off oxygenated blood to your brain rather than crushing your trachea and suffocating to death. If your face is turning red and you feel like your head is going to explode, you're doing it wrong.

I mean technically it will still work. But it will be a lot more drawn out and painful. The rope should be secured with the knot at the back of the neck and the ligature between underneath your jawline and your Adams apple. If you press down firmly on the side of your neck, you can feel the pulse which is the carotids.

I'm so sorry that you're suffering and going through pain with it.

It often seems people struggle to target the carotids without hitting the windpipe... Do you happen to have any insight on how to do that? I've read about padding the area, but also that the padding shifts sometimes...

Its mostly trial and error. The best position for the rope isn't the same for everyone, so you will likely have to reposition it a few times. Up near the jaw is what works for me and what I have seen reccomended the most. You can also troubleshoot the pressure/speed of it, it just takes practice. When you find the right spot, you shouldnt feel anything beyond discomfort and your vision/hearing will quickly start to fade out. Other symptoms that ive experienced are feeling hollow, eyelids getting heavy, breath slowing, and a general haziness/dreamy feeling. Padding can help, though i would say it helps more with comfort than anything. If you have trouble with the padding slipping, i imagine you could secure it in place with a few small pieces of tape.

Yës, I realize now that that won't work. I just got finished trying again, I swung the rope over my door and closed it to where it was anchore smugly and around my neck, giving me room to where I only am able to squat down. My face turned red and my vision flashed, which was all that happened. I put socks under the rope to try and put pressure on my carotids, but I guess it wasn't enough padding. I am going to try again. I plan to die tonight. I am desperate. Thank you.

I tried socks for the padding but it didn't work. What do you suggest?

By didnt work do you mean that you couldnt hit cartoids? I might just be lacking context but I kind of doubt that this is an issue with the padding. It could be that the sock is too thin or too thick, or that it was positioned wrong, but from the original post it seems like the rope was pressed against your windpipe or jugular which would explain it not going as planned.

I used one normal crew sock on each side, which I think was too thin. And yes, the rope was kind of in the middle of my neck. It should be right below my jaw and ears right?

This seems impulsive. You should just sleep on it and do proper research about your method and also be sure you want to go forward with it.

No. I have been wanting to kill myself for years. This will be my third time attempting. It's not impulsive. I have nothing to live for
