Hello everyone,
I have a medical condition which means I won't recover to my previous health and I can't stand living like this anymore. I'm planning to walk in to the sea and drown at night. Not sure whether I should put weights in a backpack or just have some alcohol before hand and walk/swim out until I can't anymore. I had the perfect life before this happened. Life is so unfair at times.

But you can commit suicide. Some people are paralyzed, and can't even kill themselves. Look on the bright side.

The shallow water blackout method you include a link to could be my new method. I've been planning to ctb with the train decapitation method for a few weeks but I can't overcome my SI with that method and the thought of the authorities finding me like that after I'm gone.

This seems like a much more peaceful method and I'm going to do further research on it.

Im terribly sorry you feel like this.

Have you thought about how difficult it might be to just walk into the sea? Even with the backpack, you could just take it off. I think, if it were me, even with swimming out to sea itd be difficult to resist the urge to turn around once I started to get exhausted. And I think I'd just be able to tread water on my back for a while until I regained enough energy to swim back.

Personally, I dont think I could overcome the challenges that come with this idea, and I'm just trying to make sure you've thought this through.

My thought about this, having attempted several methods I preferred but which did not result in the desired outcome, is to suggest that you do what you want that is your preference and within your capability, but don't be attached to the outcome. If it works, you've accomplished what you sought. If you do not accomplish what you seek for whatever reason, you can then reevaluate and either try again having gained new knowledge; seek another method and once again plan according to your will and your capabilities; or set aside the goal and focus on other things at hand.

All of this supports and maintains equanimity. Passionate emotions and rigid attachment to desired outcomes lead to bad decisions and loss of control in thought and action. Calmness, rationality, and acceptance of any potential outcome lead to self-assuredness and the ability to manage any outcome.

Again, having experienced this, I was calm going into it, knew the method may not result in my death, and I was not thrown off when it failed and therefore did not feel traumatized by the experience. Each time, I mainted awareness of what I was doing, paid attention to what I was feeling physically and emotionally, and remained ever more calm and aware with each subsequent attempt. There are other methods available to me which will require more of me to ensure success, and I have to weigh out risks and what I know I am and am not capable of. If it requires more capability, then I have to do more mental preparation so that I do not feel traumatized by the attempt, even if I am assured that it will have the desired result. I don't want to die a traumatic or distressing death if I can in any way control that.

Agreed! Just to add, I think one of the points you're making is that there is no harm done if it doesn't work, and OP can try another method if they so desire to.

This is true - but it's important to show some discretion to avoid raising alarm bells and ending up on a psych ward. OP mentions the possibility of walking into the sea with a backpack full of weights. If one were to be seen walking into the ocean with clothes on and get rescued, it could potentially be very obvious that it was a CTB attempt. Very important imo that OP makes sure it's done at night, and that the beach and surrounding area is absolutely definitely empty.

I've seen a lot of potential jumpers getting caught recently, which may be slightly different because one is more suspicious at a jumping scene lurking around. But I still think it could still go a similar way to incidents like that.

Agreed that part of ensuring success is thorough planning, including considering all potential risks and outcomes, such as getting interrupted and "saved."

That's one of the most valuable things about this forum, getting input from others in case we overlook risks of failure or ending up worse off than when we started.

Oh man, this method looks like it has real potential. Shame the only body of water near me is filled with litter and waste. Something to think about though!

Same here. Considered jumping of a bridge to river to drown but all those things inside. Cant imagine i could force myself to drown in all that waste

I think I'd be tempted by the bathtub, but I'd just be terrified that I'd somehow turn over whilst unconscious and end up brain dead. I feel like in an open body of water that would be less likely to happen, because in the bath, much of my body would be touching the bottom, so a little spasm could potentially send me onto my side.

Looking in the thread the only evidence weve got relates to accidental deaths of divers, so it's hard to know what the risks and chances of success are.

I guess we can become free divers and hope to fail somehow someday. Out of 1000 attempts, 1 might work

That or dropping in deep waters with alot of weights..

Thank you everyone. I don't really have any other available options. Still not sure whether to just run in to the water or to go in with weights. In terms of other methods, I unfortunately don't have anything else available. After taking an overdose a couple of months ago and being hospitalised for 5 days, I now split my time between my home with my husband and staying with my parents. As they are all keeping an eye on me all of the time it's pretty hard to think of what else I could do. There aren't any bridges near where I live and even the above method meant driving a couple of hours from where I live.
I am so sorry you feel there are no other options.
Thank you so much

Thank you. I don't know if having alcohol beforehand would help with courage or just make things worse. Completely agree it will be hard to follow through with this but am running out of other ideas based on methods available to me.

Have you considered hanging or jumping? Maybe you could rent an airbnb/hotel room at a high floor?

I don't think I could hang myself and think the hotel would need to be very high up. As I'm being watched by my family pretty much all of the time it would be impossible to get away even for one night without them calling the police. Thank you though.

I do have to advise taking care with drowning since, assuming you don't care about the pain, it's going to require some kind of weight for you to not come back up to the surface. Also consider that jumping into a body of water could attract attention depending on where you are.
