I don't know, I have wondered this also. I feel like an impulsive suicide would be one I'd be more likely to carry out incorrectly. A planned one is a lot scarier but a lot more serious and maybe more likely to succeed because I'd be fully aware of the circumstances. But more likely to second guess a planned suicide and not do it at all. So maybe it doesn't matter. It's hard either way.

I've made two impulsive attempts that made my life MUCH worse than had I just planned and prepared beforehand. My mindset at the time was that i didn't care how I died I just wanted the pain to stop. Unfortunately for me I survived and lost two cars in the process

Never make an impulsive attempt, wait it out and plan it. If you really want to die you can do it tomorrow with the proper tools and preparations.

Planned is the best way to go. Less chances of an accidental fuck up.

Suicide should never be impulsive to avoid loss of dignity.

Should have clarified the poll, tried edit it but was too late, writing;
Planned (how & when)
Impulsive (how & when)
Planned (how) + impulsive (when)

I voted for planned + impulsive timeframe since I had already planned to die many years before (over a decade) and mainly alternative between passive and active (when shit really hits the fan, then active). The impulsive part (as much as I don't consider it impulsive in the sense of just immediately after) would have more to do with catalysts and the tipping point, whether it would be the extra reason or event that tips and pushes me over the edge.

I've got it pretty planned, but I ultimately know it would be impulsive when it actually happens. There will be a thing that happens that takes me to the next level and it's just a matter of going with it. I strongly believe it will be my inevitable job loss that's going to be that catalyst..

I just voted 'planned', even thought I am not so sure any more ... I wrote about it too.

Some months ago while in the midst of research and obtaining supplies, all seemed very clear to me. I obtained all I wanted.

Recently, I have started to examine more closely the reasons I have been telling myself for still hanging around ... I am not liking the answers I am arriving at.

After all it might be the case of resorting to the usual 'get drunk and get it done' method, to escape aimless wondering through the lands of 'neither dead nor alive.'

I moved to my fathers house and I planned everything. I order Dry Ice, I had the meds and by impulse I fought with my ex till she blocked me. So I would not have what to miss in this world. You can say that this is planned + impulse.
Oh, and I failed and ended up to psych ward wich was a bad experience.

Impulsive attempts are alluring because it really reduces SI. But it's only possible to do with quick methods that are immediately available. The time involved in preparing another method can bring doubts, fear and self preservation back. Not easy to push through all of them and plan and succeed with CTB.

After having several impulsive attempts, I feel planned is better. Planned gives you time to prepare properly, to cover all areas should something go wrong, to make sure your affairs are in order etc.

According to the statistics only 1 out of 25 suicide attempts is a success.
So If anyone wants to succeed they are going to have to plan and prepare.
Once someone is all planned and prepared then they can be impulsive.

I picked the planned but impulsive time frame, as i think the pressure of a looming date would not help in terms of SI, but obviously it would be important with my method (Full suspension hanging) to have the resources available to me when the time comes.

I plan how I'll die (doesn't need a lot of preparation, IMO) so it's just up to how my mood will be really suicidal. I should've voted "Planned + impulsive timeframe"

Plan is the route, impulse is the fuel to walk through it. Without plan the outcome is unpredictable, without impulse there's no execution. Survival instinct can kick in if the plan is good, and we know how it works. On the other hand, ignorance can blind the SI, but the result is less predictable because some important variables might be missed from the plan.

Impulsively planned. I have tools I carry around with me if I ever need to flick the off switch at any given point. Someone I knew slept next to their gun for the same reason. They flicked the off switch recently.

I have only ever attempted on impulse because the feelings was too strong. however I now have the knowledge and the tools about to make a better attempt at it planned or impulse in the future. Hope that makes sense

As someone with a CHL, I have my carry gun near me at almost any time. What's ironic is I'm not planning on using that one. I've got a Beretta 92fs in 9mm that's looking pretty good as I can use it as a single action or my Ruger sr1911 in 10mm if I want really take a chunk of brain with me.. Choices, choices...

It'll probably be the Beretta though..

Planned for Monday, May 11th at 6 pm through SN Method. (so 2 days left).
Planned is a lot better than being impulsive in my own personal experience. I've had two very impulsive and unplanned attempts and they turned out like shit.

I know I backed out of my intention to ctb through SN 5 days ago, but now that I said Goodbye to my mom and hugged her, I feel that I'm ready to go now. That's also why I like planned better, so I can get my affairs in order, give those I love one last hug, and mentally prepare myself.

I am so sorry that you experienced this recently as well. Especially the day afterwards is extremely emotionally devastating. Did you feel sick and couldn't sleep due to the Meto? That's what happened to me....the side effects are horrific . I felt like I was on Meth, mind racing, with sweats and diarrhea.

Sending you lots of hugs.

Meto made me sick. :aw: The most recent time, I didn't even get to take the Meto … I think I made myself sick to my stomach. I don't remember the other side effects now but it's almost been 2 years. Possibly some sweats. I don't remember having trouble sleeping. I started the Meto and remember feeling sick. I was going to take more doses and then go to a motel to finish it. Sadly I didn't get that far. :aw:

Planned Will be better. Thinking of putting stones in a rucksack and walking in to a River. Probably wouldn't be my main method but it's an option.

I am sorry you went through all of that ! I think the Meto (30 mg stat dose) made me feel sick or weird as well but I think it was just more anxiety from me being so close to drinking the SN. Because I was only 8 minutes away from drinking it, so I wouldn't have had to deal with any effects cuz I would have been dead hopefully shortly after.

Do you have any other methods you would be comfortable using ? (If you still plan on ctb I mean). I wanted to go with a different antiemetic but that one with less side effects is banned in the US.

I was trying the 2 day method … if I attempt again it will be the stat dose. In Stan's Guide... Antacids are mentioned also for SN. I still want to CTB... just a coward. Also have family concerns. :aw:
