What would happen if my nan died? I'm 30 y.o and I live with nan in a council flat. If she wasn't here what would happen? I'm not receiving pip yet as I haven't applied and it is Christmas time. I do recieve ESA. I have depression and anxiety it is so bad I didn't go out the whole of 2023 but I feel I need the doctor to verify this depression before applying for PIP. I do have EUPD and it makes it hard for me every day. I don't go out, I don't socialise, I don't even have social media. I'm so very alone besides having nan. I'm on the house group so the council know I've been at nans on and off. How would they help me if she wasn't here? Nan is my rock and if she wasn't here I'd need my own space for the sake of my mental health & my cat for emotional support I'm so scared please someone give me insight. What will happen to me?
I'm panicking and crying my heart out I'm so so scared for the future. How will I get the support to be somewhat functioning and still have them understand what I do is limited and I am incapable of socialising without panic attacks and emotional melt downs. For that reason I do any shopping necessary online. I can barely use the phone, where do I begin

Dear Raindrops,

So sad to hear the pain you are going through. Whilst this is not professional advice, I hope that this helps and please try and get everything done on the list;

1. Please keep your medical certificate for ESA updated at all times.
2. Book an appointment with your GP, discuss all your concerns, indicate your concern about housing (and that nan is elderly) and ask to be referred to a social worker to help you with everything including paperwork. Also if you are not under the care of the Community Mental Health Team (CMHT), please ask the GP to refer you urgently as you need therapy and support.
3. Then make the application for PIP - would strongly recommend that you ask Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) to help you complete the application form. When you apply, break down every aspect of your life that struggle with. For PIP, please put down the name of every single professional who works with you.
4. Please ask your nan if she can talk to her housing officer and advise them.that due to your vulnerability, you are living with her and she is keeping an eye on you. Once this has been done, please ask if your name can be added to the tenancy.
5. DWP does have visiting officers for clients who re vulnerable and they can help to complete application forms and they can visit you at home.
6. If someone is caring for you, they can apply for carers allowance.

Please feel free to message me if you need further information.

Please also look at MIND for further support.

A lot of this a be done online though it might take longer - which is where the social worker, MIND and DWP can help. The GP might refer you to a social prescriber which is fine - but please insist on being allocated a social worker who can work with you regarding housing and PIP - it is better to deal with this before it becomes a problem.

Good Luck

Thank you, thank you so much. I don't know what day I can start this, it would be in the new year I assume? I have a telephone appointment from ESA coming in January. I have been receiving ESA for a year now. As for evidence...all I have is a consultation letter that explains how I self reffered, it states how they diagnosed me as EUPD (bpd) also states in the letter the medication they have prescribed for it. I couldn't possibly make it to the doctors in person as I'm so depressed and have been the whole of 2023 & 2022. I have doctor records from suffering as a child with anxiety and I still have anxiety. My anxiety and depression hasn't been recognised though. Only EUPD. I'm struggling to eat, wash, focus and think clearly, I have panic attacks. On the 4th of January I have the mental health nurse calling me, this is just the beginning. When should I book the GP? Can I ask for a telephone appointment? Will they listen? I need a social worker so badly. I'm so lost and nan is 74 I'm so scared.

*My nan has an independent support worker who said she's willing to help. I DEFINITELY need my own social worker. I'm so confused and I can't understand the forms or the process. I have no way of understanding how to do these things right now. *Nan has a 3 bedroom flat and they told me i can't be on the tenancy because only married couples/partners can do that, they don't know about my personal issues/mental health though.
😔 I'm so scared what will happen. If im staying with nan (which I've only been here 2 weeks) will they rehouse me appropriately? I'm in no receipt of housing benefit or universal credit or whatever. What will happen, I need to sort so much. They said however if my nan was in a 2 bed property I'd get to stay as its smaller or something like that. I thought if me and nan moved out to a 2 bed we could sign the tenancy together. She's bad on her feet and has to climb stairs, I don't know.

Is your Nan's life insurance policy naming you as the beneficiary?
Almost everyone is financially dependent on someone, which is why life insurance exists.

You should apply for your own benefits using your own medical records and advocates. Your Nan qualified for her benefits based on her own criteria. Even in the EU, they are unlikely to transfer to you.

I hope everything works out.

Nan hasn't got life insurance. I really want to be helped, I keep thinking about all of those in hostels and shelters, I have my cat, he is my sole friend and one of my purposes, truly and I know that sounds so sad, he is emotional support to me, he is so friendly and such a calm cat, I feel at ease when I'm with him. I know I can claim benefits with my mental health, my depression, anxiety and EUPD. I just wonder how housing and accommodation by the council is put in place. I don't see how I'll get a social worker. I'm so scared.

When you say I'll carry on as before do you mean that they would help appropriately? I read some things online about how people weren't helped, I don't understand. Will every thing be okay? 😔 how do you know? Nan is here now and fine and happy and somewhat healthy apart from smoking 20 a day but what if something happened to her, she's my rock and this is my home too.

Buy your nan a life insurance. Guarantee your own generational wealth. Today's kids inherit Craigslist sofas and bus passes! lol

I'm in the US, is this for disability or welfare? If I posted the wrong topic, let me know and I'll start a new thread for US benefits.

You don't need to persuade us; you need to persuade the benefits authorities. It's frustrating when people are denied benefits because it sounds like they're talking to doctors, but you are asking the government for money. Asking the government for money is not for the faint of heart!
Buckle up, Mate! lol

I've noticed a pattern that I'd like to bring to your attention.

First, you keep saying "how you feel." "How do you feel today?" This is a doctor's question.

The government will ask you, "Tell me why you are unable to work," and you must describe why you are failing to stay employed.
Second, this is important. You are talking yourself out of receiving your benefits. In the US, you're are not paid to stay home with your cat, because you're scared. Do you know why? You just told me you can work in a cat shelter, as a cat sitter, at a vet's office, or in the Petsmart cat adoption area. You should only use the cat story if the cat is your service animal and you brought it to work with you. Look at the compensation structure and adhere to it.

This is the USA minimum for a good case.

Focus here. "Why can't you work and need government assistance?
If you're sick, what treatments have you attempted without success in ameliorating your illness?
"My understanding is that my illness will get worse over time without any full recovery."

Medical
: It is not enough to state you have anxiety; you have to demonstrate that your treatments failed.

Here's the lowdown. Sick people see doctors and take medication. Use telehealth. Doctors confirm diagnosis and treatments, not you! Doctors can declare all treatment exhausted. Before applying, I recommend one year of medical records stating treatments failed and you won't get better.

Employment: You can't say anxiety prevent you from working. Millions of people diagnosed with GAD work! Your work history—what happened?

Have you received workplace disability accommodations? Letters from former supervisors explaining hardships. Medical history supports illness-related absences. Did you get fired because you took too many sick days? Did your angry outbursts or lack of interpersonal skills lead to your termination?

BPD-related. Employees with honors degrees and brilliant job qualifications are frequently fired due to personality disorders that cause interpersonal conflict and drama with coworkers. Has a job counselor declared you not fit-to-work? People in Cluster B can ask their therapists or job counselors for this clinical assessment.

School: Treatment details are important, not your childhood anxiety.

What's your highest education? Did you get childhood disability benefits? Did an Education Assessment Test confirm your learning disabilities? Were you in a special education program? Do you have IQ test results? Did you receive academic accommodations?

Lifestyle: How does your illness affects your daily life and your capacity to work?

Check the DSM-5 diagnostic criteria for your medical conditions and explain how they negatively impact your work.

Ask people who see you struggling, like your nan, to write witness statements. People who drive you to appointments, assist you with self-care, chores, food, shopping, cleaning, call to remind you to take medication, feed your pets, act as a crisis buddy, and so on.

Submit photographic evidence with your own statement. Self-harm, hoarding, poor hygiene, unshaven, matted hair, filthy house, cat poop, and so on.

I'm in the UK, sorry it was hard for me to take that all in but I read it all and thank you so much for your reply. We recieve a benefit called PIP and ESA if you have severe depression & anxiety you can claim both and be awarded both benefits in full. I have never attempted to claim everything I need in full. Here in the UK I believe they look at the entire history of your mental health. My job had low attendance, I couldn't face it most days, I gave up work 2 years ago because it started to pay a toll on my colleagues and work in general. I remember having such a break down, crying, screaming that the police came and sat with me so calmly and nicely, they sat on the floor with me! They told me straight - "focus on your mental health and get the help you need, clearly this job or any job will be difficult for you to keep while in a state of despair" as for working in a cat shelter or any of those you suggested, that is socialising, physically socialising. I haven't socialised in 2 years, now it will be 3 years. My panic attacks, dizziness, lethargy and anxiety stop me from going through the door. I purchase things online. I dont have social media though. As for the stress of a job, I couldn't work with commitment as I struggle to cook a meal without panicking, socialising is a no-go for me. I get angry and nervous with myself and find tasks impeccably difficult without feeling disassociation. No cat poop hanging around, I manage him and care for him well, he goes out and comes back in, he is something that eases my negative thoughts and yet on some days I'll think my cat hates me. (Cats do hate us to be fair) No treatment has worked so far, I'm still this way since I was 13. I left school at 13 because of socialising. I'm on my 2nd lot of medication they said would work, the 1st lot didn't, here's to hoping this one does, if not they tell me a mood stabiliser will work. Ahhh there's so much I can't explain it all but all I know is I struggle to socialise, I struggle to make myself dinner and look after myself through washing, cleaning. Nan cannot write she is dyslexic, nan has her own issues. This is why I need that social worker. I'm worried for the future and if any treatment will ever work.
