What are the main reasons for failing partial hanging? Assuming I'm able to pass out.

Is it the rope breaking? Or coming loose due to thrashing? Or just plain SI.
there's obviously some serious risks of failure. So trying to get a handle on what those might be. I have a good anchor. About 8 feet high.

What about using a cable with a carabeener attachment to make a quick slip knot?
is it better to do partial more close to standing? Or use a longer length rope and be closer to the ground ie seated or kneeling.

I would say the most common failure is not doing it well enough so you don't compress the carotid artery and pass out. From the times I've tried it I just get a pressure in my head that feels like it's going to explode.

Full suspension did the trick though but SI kicked in.

So I would say it's a mix of not passing out, and then also SI.

So you just kept applying pressure and not actually passing out or stopping too early. Got it thanks. I think my anchor is too high for full hanging and not sure my rope is strong enough.
I've practiced but never to the point of passing out.
the only thing I know for sure is metal aircraft cable for like a gym pully machine. I want to just do partial with a necktie.

I can do full by tying to an anchor point and pulling the rope over the top of the door then shutting it so that achieves full suspension. Everyone has doors.

But if you're more comfortable with partial then try that, I feel like it's easier to get wrong. I was putting pressure on for several minutes and got nothing

I have something high enough to support my weight, I don't know about my ligature though. (Belt, dog leash, necktie, extension cord, straps used for sex restraints)
The anchor will definitely support me, it's just high enough for full suspension. The only "rope "
I have that will not fail is basically mentally cable for workout machines and that will probably suck. So I'd like to do partial. Seated. Partial. Almost standing. All the failures scare me. I rested a while ago but not sure if it was right. I didn't pass out but started seeing colours with eyes closed

Im guessing the main reason for failure after loss of consciousness would be agonal convulsions causing loss of pressure around the neck. I wouldn't worry about the rope breaking or knot slipping if you have some common sense. Just use a proper rope (not a headphone cable or floss or something stupid) and spend the 5 minutes it takes to learn to tie a proper knot.

Carabiner is NOT a good choice because it will loosen and slip. Watch this video.

The differences between standing and sitting really boils down to how much bodyweight is left on the rope. Standing will always result in lots of weight on the rope, and with sitting it can vary depending on the specific position. Make sure your butt is above the floor and that you won't collapse in a manner that relieves pressure. Id personally opt for kneeling because it seems fairly comfortable up to loss of consciousness

for me it was SI. Too hard to keep myself down, so I'm looking into other methods at the moment. But to be honest, the first time I tried putting my body weight on the tie I was using, the knot on the door handle came undone and I fell, so make sure you attach it to whatever you're hanging yourself off of properly

Mostly fail because people are scared and si kicked in

Thank you. Super useful. Appreciate you taking the time to talk me out of my panicked thinking. Take my time. Make sure shit is right.

I don't think anything will physically fail at this point, more just my brain.

Thanks for the knot advice!
