I am a little curious so let's see how this turns out. I want to know, by gender, who's scared of pain and who isn't. This excludes the aesthetic of the death, so when you answer, focus only on the pain. To give you an idea think of this scenario;

Would you rather die in 45 minutes with no pain or 5 minutes with high/extreme pain?

To make it semi scientific, I'd say that female will be less scared of pain than male and Non-Binary/Other That's my theory. Now go forth and vote, feel free to engage in discussion and share your thoughts.

Please be respectful with the answers, this is not a female vs male or who's thought contest. I'm just curious to see what the results will be!

Now why did I pick female? Periods. Those are brutal, they come with a wide array of symptoms. For this reason I think females will be less scared of pain.

Can't wait to see yall's thoughts!!

I;m female. Less scared of pain. I had cancer at 18 and a total of 11 surgeries lived through some pain. I went without meds so I can released be earlier so I can smoke. I have been in constant pain since my son died so few minutes of pain in nothing.

I don't really have a solid answer for this myself, but I'd like to offer an alternative hypothesis. I think men would be less scared of the concept of pain upon dying. After all, women attempt suicide at higher rates than men, but men are successful more often than women. Not only does this have to do with impulse control and whatnot, but I feel that it may be due to a increased willingness to experience a gruesome end.

This is an amazing insight, thank you! The data does support that male are more successful.

My theory on why females are less successful is because they want a more clean death. I agree 100% that men are less scared of gory death. I think the pain is less a factor than the endocrine that females must be discreet in everything they do.

Thank you for your input, may you find your peace!

I think I need some clarity on this. My fear of pain is what has contributed to my choice of method. I don't fear the pain of my chosen method that much. Is that supposed to figure in my selection?

Personally I'd put it under scared of pain, since you choose a method that you knew wouldn't be painful.

But if you feel that for you, it falls under not scared then pick that one ^^ there is no 'right' or 'wrong' answer, just a vast curiosity on the impact of perceived/felt pain during CBT.

Thank you for your time and question, may you find your peace!

I'm male and I hate pain. Suffering is the main reason why I want to CTB, so I definitely don't want to extend it anyway. This even extends to self-harm which I've never had the urge to do.

Its a hard one this, what you might feel as pain could be total different to me.

but sayig that if you put your hand in a fire, i would think it would hurt anyone.

then you have people that don't feel emotional pain the same as others

do you mean physical pain???

i guess if you had a low pain threshold you might pass out more quickly , which could be a winner!!!

Yes. Think of this when answering; Would you rather die in 45 minutes with no pain or 5 minutes with high/extreme pain?

Because the next step after this question goes; is the pain worth a shorter CBT time that will guarantee death VS the painless way that has more chance to be discovered and rescued?
I just want to say that as a non-binary person I really appreciate you including us.

As someone who's enby, inclusion has been the biggest fight of my life the past 2 years, since I started to transition. I believe in leading by example and inclusion on all levels.

Too bad the rest of the society is still stuck with Pink and Blue :/

I think some types of pain are more bearable than others.
For example, I think a toothache pain is the worst, also severe muscle cramp pain.
I would rather hit my thumb with a hammer, than have a toothache, even if it is not severe.
That said, I am male, and voted as afraid of pain, which is why my selected method is inert gas / exit bag.

I agree with the levels of pain! I'd rather have tooth ache over period pain.

But in this context, I'm talking about the pain to end your life. Basically, is your fear of pain bigger than your will to die as quickly as possible?

Thank you for your time and may you find peace!

People who don't fear pain may not have experienced the intensity of it that I have with a kidney stone. It drove me insane. I was a puddle of non human quivering screaming tissue. I screamed for four days until my voice wouldn't work any more. I live in fear of pain, would do anything not to experience it. Due to torturous menstrual periods much of my life, my total being, has been shaped and defined by pain. It stopped me from working at a career. I lived daily in fear of pain from those periods. It is the major force in my life.

It might not be kidney but I've been in pain from gallbladder stones since the beginning big 2920. It's excruciating painful, I'm not keeping any food down, I've curled around the toilet bowl on the flow bawling and howling in pain, shivering from fever. Same for periods, always painful and heavy, boobs hurt, hips hurt, hell some pants don't fit because my hips are too swollen.

Am I scared of pain? No. Am I tired of it? Hell. Fucking. Yes.

Thank you for your input and may you find peace
I thought there weren't gender specific differences such as what you describe.

If that's your belief, feel free to ignore this thread if you find it offensive. Please note that Non-Binary is also included for inclusiveness.

But from what I have read, there is a difference between male and female brains (I have not read anything on enbies, if you have sources please link!), that's even reflected in transgender people. FTM shows male brain and MTF show female brain.

Sex and gender are different. There's more than 2 genders.

Here's a question back at you;

Is the fact that men are highly discouraged to talk about their feelings the reason why they are more successful at CBT?

It's a very complex issue, I'll give you that. There's tons of nuances, of course. But just play along for a second.

You're about to do it, it's starting. Would you rather have 5 minutes of really extreme pain at the beginning, or 15 minutes of mild pain toward the end?

Deep down. Aren't we just all afraid? And those who truely aren't, what makes them tick?

Thank you for your input, may you find peace!

Men have testosterone. This makes them more prone to violence and killing. So suicide is more in keeping with their nature. Any type of killing is.

Women get higher testosterone during periods too. PMS explained hahaha. But inflicting violence on someone else vs yourself , is something maybe a male opinion would help shade light on!

Thank you for your input, it's very engaging!

Interesting survey.

But I would like to point out that you would have to do a separate survey for each gender so that the numbers say something.

The percentage distribution is now incorrectly calculated

I'm a male, and I'm pretty scared of pain. Though it depends on the severity. The one thing I'm more afraid of is vomiting, and even more so when I have diarrhea as well. Ironically, I'm taking a gamble with my method in regards to that.

Yeah I know but I'm just 1 person so, plus I'm somewhere in between. I'm scared of some pain but not scared of others and it's complicated lol so I can't decide. I don't think it matters what gender or non gender you are, I think it's just subjective to everyone

Edit; I went a step further and added afraid/not afraid regardless of gender as a more inclusive answer for those who feel that gender is irrelevant. Inclusion is key!

I'm female verging on enby, and am not terribly concerned about pain associated with suicide... probably in large part because I've engaged in self-harm off and on for over half my life. When pain is self-inflicted, I perceive it differently and can, to a certain extent, "turn it off". I am much less tolerant of pain inflicted by others.

That said, I would never intentionally choose a method involving the potential for severe physical trauma or pain.
