To quote from a research paper on Sagepub:

"Christison and Coindet contributed a valuable article on the subject to the Edinburgh Medical Journal of 1823. They reported on eleven cases of oxalic acid poisoning. In every instance the poison was mistaken for Epsom salts, and the quantity varied from 3 drachms to 2 ounces."

Addendum:

" [...] Of the eleven cases, six died within the hour, three lived a few hours, and only two recovered."
