I won't mention names but long story short I got a message from them asking about SN shelf life and other questions. I mentioned to them my thoughts and concerns about if SN actually lasts past the expiration date. And not even a day later they chose to ctb. Maybe I'm overthinking this but I can't help but think I might have caused them to rush to ctb out of fear of their SN possibly being expired. I know ultimately it's up to them but I still feel at fault. It's not like I could've known. This isn't the first time I've talked to someone before they died, but this time feels surreal. Fuck.

It's not your fault at all. The info is even discussed in a pinned thread (Stability of SN). If you did not answer them they probably would have messaged someone else and asked for the info. It's better to give the best info to others we have bc that prevents failures and people from becoming cripples in the worst case. I understand your concerns but it is absolutely not your fault.

When they were determined to attempt - and I assume they were really determined - they would have done it anyway. It's their personal choice,we have no influence on anyone's free choice and decisions.

We can only do our best in good faith! đź«‚

I had someone on another forum message me saying they were drinking SN, at the time I didn't know anything about it and didn't really think much of it.

About a week later someone else posted a video link to their funeral service, there was also news articles of their death online because they were sort of famous in their country but didn't mention it was suicide. I was surprised it worked more than anything.

I don't feel guilty that I didn't talk them out of it because they were suffering very badly. I guess as long you didn't actually encourage them by telling them to take it there's nothing to worry about because they ultimately decided to take their own life, if anything you should feel glad knowing someone else is free from this prison.

Although SN is a very stable substance even past it's expiration date, you gave them your opinion and nothing to worry about that. Everyone is responsible to doing their own research rather than taking a single opinion into consideration. Also sometimes people choose to kill themselves after any random incident. That doesn't necessarily mean that it was the cause of it. There's usually several reasons that pushed them to that point over the years and the inevitable was bound to happen either way.

I understand the timing is freaking you out, but rest assured it is not your fault in any way, shape or form. The person in question had aquired SN of their own volition with the intention to ctb. Providing information and answering questions is not the same as pushing someone to kill themselves.

Hello -

as everyone said, it's not your fault. By coincidence, you talked to the member one day before death. Could have been talking to many others somewhere else. Could... so many things.

It was really a coincidence. Something made the member feel worse and he poisoned himself. By chatting you made him feel less alone until almost the last day.

Actually I think you helped him go through that day, it was very good of you. Don't see it as having sped it up, you delayed it and you held his hand until the last minute.

The SN would not have transformed at midnight into sugar.

Not. Your. Fault. We have absolutely ZERO control over what others do. It's free will if they actually ctb. The only actions you can control are your own, and telling someone their SN may not be good after expiration date is not an action.
