149 votes so far and here are the results: over 70% of us have been suicidal for more than six years. 48% of us have been suicidal for over ten years and 26% of us have been suicidal for over twenty years.
That doesn't really surprise me. I don't think ideation is necessarily something that just appears and you either act on it or recover. I think it grows and festers over the years. I think especially if someone finds their way here- they have likely already been thinking about it for a while. Of course- perhaps I'm wrong. Perhaps the most impulsive of us have come and gone already... or, they didn't feel like voting.
I suppose I just wonder what a 'normie' would think about it though. I doubt 70% of the people that said they have had ideation for over six years have been on the site for all that time. I think many people come here when they have reached the point of finding a method.
I suppose I just get annoyed by the preconceptions of others (normies)- that ideation is something that always just strikes someone out of the blue. That it's an impulsive act. (I'm not saying it can't be of course.) Plus- the most ridiculous assertion (to me) that some of the longer term members here aren't actually suicidal at all- because 'they would have done it already' type thing. I'm almost certain that many of the people who have been THINKING about it for years have in fact- only recently found their way here.
I wonder in terms of percentage just how many of the suicides that actually get reported and are described as 'completely out the blue' and 'shocking to everyone that knew them' were ACTUALLY years in the making.
