I know there is a lot of talk about ending life here, being a suicide forum and all, but does anyone have any good theories on how life started. I do not believe there is an adequate explanation given for that by the 'intellectual/ science' community.

The very existence of consciousness is strange to me. I mean, why are there not only rocks, trees and water out there, but also sentient life..?

Perhaps consciousness was created in order to bring order to the chaos that was the universe in the beginning, but who knows...? What's your own theory?

I think the world we know is not that old, maybe not more than 10000 years if that many. This existence has to have some kind of meaning or purpose otherwise it wouldn't be here, which means it was probably created. By what I don't know, but I can't imagine it was just always here.

That could be so. Being a skeptic myself, I mostly think that so-called "scientists" rely too much on guess work to establish some kind of a consensus rergarding so-called "scientific facts" - such as how many years have passed since the first humans appeared on this planet - in order to feel important. Now, I don't believe in any fringe ideas about a flat Earth or similar, but I mean that there's simply no concrete answer out there that may prove such theories correct. Why even bother with such things...?

I hope that we receive the answer to such questions at the time of death

There has been numerous research on this throughout decades

We know from physics that there always must be some action for reaction. But if you think about it, there must have been no action for the very first reaction. Nothing must have caused something that eventually led to other things. That's the hard part to grasp.

The sleepers awaken, as the dreamers sleep. And also a third group, those who are waiting for the truth to come to them from somewhere.

Ah, I love reading threads like these, it feels like it's been a while since I saw one. Gather ye and watch as all the scientific and spiritual minds crawl out of the woodwork, to offer their authoritative opinions about the nature of the mysteries, life, death, and the universe!

I do not believe there is an adequate explanation given for that by the 'intellectual/ science' community.

First nothing, then a big dumb explosion for no reason, and now everything. Bam. Mystery solved! We might still need to do some calculations though I think, and maybe deploy a few more Steven Hawkings... But stay tuned, soon we shall understand all!

I wish I knew why, but most importantly I wish I knew what happens after we die. Where do we go--if we do leave our bodies at all, how much of us dies along with our body and what do we see on the other side? Is the tunnel of light and these spiritual guides the NDE survivors claim to see really acting in our best interest or will we be forced into yet another reincarnation for some nefarious purpose? Knowing this would help put a lot of qualms and fears I have about ctb and the afterlife to rest.

Time itself (which is not a separate 'thing' to space) began with the Big Bang. The most mainstream theory is that the earliest life on Earth arrived via a comet plunging into the ocean about 4 billion years ago, then the early organisms very slowly increased in complexity until the tipping point of the Cambrian Explosion of 540 mya.

The bigger question of why anything exists - consciousness, space, time - cannot be sensibly raised. It doesn't exist for a particular reason; it just does and is self-evident. Even people who attribute causation to a God would fail to explain why that God exists.

To delve more deeply into the nature of reality, the intellect is not the right tool, as its domain is far too constricted, as well as theoretical rather than experiential.

Time itself, doesn't exist actually. There is one moment that has progressed day to night, day to night, etc. etc.
The concept of time was just made up by humans to make sense of the progression of subatomic shit, bacteria, etc.

With that out of the way, I will tell you what I think everything is and how it came to be and how it works.
This is what it is.

There is a God, or Gods.

Every human born comes from this God or Gods.

You have to fight for your God against other Gods (whether they exist or not).

The God that drafted you has the rights to send you to hell or heaven. (There could be 1 heaven/hell for 1 God each, or there is just one and all the Gods share them).

If you don't follow the God that drafted you, you go to hell in most cases.

All the Gods also created various groups of people, the "base races". (Although it could be more complex than that with the changing tribes and sides and stuff).

TL;DR God/Gods created humans to fight against each other for a reason humans can never comprehend. The different religions on Earth are the different factions for this God/Gods. That is why life exists.

Extreme suffering brought on by evolution that ultimately made cells reproductive and then evolved into animals that developed nervous system and feelings that created 4 billion years of suffering. We came from zillions of interactions between subatomic particles

I think humans are of alien origin. I think something as in 2001 Space odyssey went down.

It's already been proven by laws of probability that life outside of the earth exists. Think about it: why did it take 3.4 billion years before a specie like the homo sapiens suddenly appeared, just 300 000 years ago, a total gamechanger for the whole planet?

It's not like I can prove anything or that I'm particularly well read on such things but I lean more towards the theory that some epic accident created life (big bang or whatever) rather than God designing everything.

If there is indeed a God, I'd prefer to think he/she/it is an artist rather than a caretaker. They made a bunch of amazing stuff, then sodded off some place else to start another project while meanwhile here, everything goes to shit. If they truly are here witnessing and causing all this stuff- we're all in trouble I would say.

With regards to consciousness- I don't see why this is something that couldn't have evolved as well. Animals have brains afterall- it's not like we have anything that massively different inside of us.

Say a monkey swinging around 7 million years ago starts to realise that the ape staring back in the pool of water is himself. Rather than go apeshit and try and kill the puddle, he decides to take a bit of extra time grooming and gets shredded. A female comes along, likes what she see's and boom- baby apes with slightly better IQ's- both from genetics and learned behaviour- Daddy teaches them not to go berserk at reflections. An oversimplification but in millions of years- wouldn't a creature that starts to BELIEVE they have a sense of self and a higher intelligence and superiority do better?

I feel like our egos and consciousness' could well be nothing more than a further development of our primal brains trying to keep us alive. Not only are we now naturally inclined to avoid dangerous situations that threaten our fragile bodies (which have become fewer in modern times- we've become VERY good at surviving). Now, we also have an inner monologue telling us how 'special', unique and talented we are and we must keep living in order to not deprive the world of our wonderful selves. Even better- we are the 'chosen ones' of an omnipotent being and each of us has a VERY special role to play.

What REALLY interests me is US- what the hell is going on inside OUR brains then? Many of us think quite the opposite. We hate ourselves, we don't want to be a part of society, some of us are antinatalists and we want to destroy ourselves. I'm kind of guessing it's either a kind of sickness/ dysfunctionality if you believe in mental illness or- it's a response to our environment. Afterall, some animals won't breed in captivity and they certainly show signs of depression.

Anyway, that's my very long winded take on it... Thanks for reading if you got this far.

Meaninglessness

Existence is absolutely meaningless

I believe that there is something very intelligent behind the origin of life and the evolution. Life is meaningless and everything will die - so why do we exist? Life on Earth could be an experiment created by a higher power.

Ikr - it just doesn't make sense. The only logical explanation is that we're in a simulation! *shrug* It would make sense seeing as how suffering is rife on this planet, like sims being left to their own devices with no one watching over them.

Vats of chemistry on the ocean floor leading to something simpler than the simplest proteins, with millions or billions of years leading to cellular life, then yet more time and evolution before multicellular life, explosions of evolution and extinction creating a few branches on the tree of evolution, more time, until the arrival of a species od hairless apes, evolutionarily programmed to believe that because they have autonomy and perception, that they are conscious. No meaning or intention behind any of it, and all meaningless suffering.
