Opinions.

If a person considering suicide told another person about their thoughts/ plans, would you deem them less suicidal/not going to attempt or would you consider them at the same amount of risk for attempting?

I believe that some people want their pain acknowledged before they die or secretly want an escape from the hell inside their head. Other times like myself, I am autistic and really struggle to not be honest (which is a bad trait). Sometimes I feel like telling someone so they can empathize my pain but then I don't want them to stop me so it's a conflict in my head.

Being honest is not a bad trait. Would you rather I lied? My opinion is all based on the person.

It would depend on how they told me. What words they used and their body language. Once they told me, I would always suspect they might one day ctb, because they made it known the possibility exists in their mind.

If you tell someone, they are far more likely to try to stop you than to empathize. That's why we have SS, so we can talk about it and receive empathy. :)

Truth? I dont want to CTB so by telling people my plans I hope and pray they will come up with a solution to the reason for my CTB, however this is not the case as there is no solution and time has now run out. I dont think you can judge a person who tells you they are planning to CTB, and I dont think there is one set answer to whether this makes it more or less likely. It depends on the person

I don't think they are less suicidal but maybe some of the pressure that's been building inside their head can be let out. I'm sure some people want to be stopped and others don't but almost all people want empathy and compassion and love. You can always talk to me if you want. My PM is always open.

I think it's a bit of both, people who are suicidal do want some validation and acceptance from others of their decision and are still very suicidal. I'd assume that they are confiding in someone because they feel safe enough to open up. By intervention, the person is breaking the suicidal's trust and dignity as well as jeopardizing (possibly making things worse) their lives.

I won't rule out the fact that there are some people who don't wish to die but just want to be "heard" or secretly wished to be stopped. They do exist, but I do think that most people who are truly suicidal will either tell someone they trust really well or even go without any hints/warnings.
