I love the novel so much, but i think that the mc really wanted to end it all however he waited for the execution cause he wasn't sure of God's existence
I don't think he waited for anything. The trial, the funeral, the murder - none of them had anything to do with him. He was so cut off from the world, that things happened to him, but didn't involve him. He was always outside looking in at a spectale that made no sense.
Read it for a French class. I really liked the first chapter or two but everything after that point pissed me off. I was surprised to find out that many readers were on the main character's side. The man is a sexist and a murderer. I don't understand how anyone could root for him. I think the cruelty and indifference he experiences is a direct result of his own choices/his mistreatment of others.
