I opened my bottles of N. Are they bad now? I put them in a cup with a ziploc bag in my bathroom. Should I put them back in the bottles or do I need new N? I took Zofran and got so sick off the Zofran I couldn't take the N. Disaster.

Unfortunately, if you don't have it soon, you will have to buy more. Once exposed to air, the N will start to degrade. I'm not sure how long if not rebottled and sealed, maybe a week or two. Did you do stat dose?

Yeah I read that too. That was if it was rebottled and sealed soon after opening. Given this is in a cup and been exposed to air for sometime, I'm assuming it's shorter.

Were you worried about being found out like through the post office?

I think the 28 days expiration after opened is because it's supposed to be injectable and so to prevent microbial contamination. They use it as an anesthetic for vet surgeries where the pet isn't being put down.
Since we're drinking it we don't have to worry about keeping it 100% sterile. I really doubt that the pentobarbital itself would oxidize in a few weeks. I believe it is actually in an alcohol base so would be like a tincture. Those tend to keep forever. Remember they used to sell liquid Nembutal as an elixir:

afaik vet N is usually 10% ethanol, but I'm not sure how effective it is at maintaining its purity. A used to sell decanted N for a short period of time (ahh the memories back in late 2019) and people drank it past a month and they still ctb'ed.

also thank you for the barbiturate history : )

I would put them back in the bottles and apply the little grey rubber stopper, then use a food saver vacuum sealer and put them in the fridge sealed.
If only out of the ambers for a few hours, and then sealed and kept at 25 degrees celsius, it's very likely still a good compound at minimum until the expiration date listed.

What about this scenario, which possibly applies to a lot of people with N:

You want to take a sample from the bottle with a syringe, and extracting the N goes super slow, so you push back air in the bottle to be able to extract N again.

Does the air pushing thing not degrade the N? You are pushing in air in a sterile environment, but the N still comes in contact with the air.

What do you think?

I guess it is not needed to keep it sterile if it is to take it orally.
but normally you don't push back air in the bottle even if you want to take some again.

What I mean is, if you extract N from the bottle with a syringe, you get some N in the syringe but not enough. Needle is still in the bottle, then you push the syringe towards the bottle again, which pushes air in the bottle, then you pull back the syringe to extract N. And then a few times more...

Do you mean that if you push the syringe towards the bottle again, air isn't injected in the bottle?
What should be the extra benefit of taking it? To sleep better?
Yes, in the past N was used to treat short-term insomnia.

You can extend the life of the N slightly by putting it in the refrigerator. Just make sure you label it as medication if you have family. Or get a mini-fridge in your room.

I would first put the needle in the bottle with the syringe attached. Pull on. Then remove the needle from the bottle. Push to get the liquid and then put the needle again in the bottle and pull. I would also take care that the needle doesn't touch something dirty in the process.
