I dislike being employed; it makes me a slave while the fat, greedy CEO's and top managers constantly chow down on luxurious meals provided by their "slaves."

I don't like being controlled or dictated by any manager with the threat of unemployment. I dislike being ordered around while their excuse is that I'm being paid to render my services (in a measly minimum wage though). Perhaps I don't have an employee mindset, because I'm not content in selling my time I cannot control while being provided the salary for you to barely live. Or perhaps, the trauma I accumulated made me into a person who absolutely despises being controlled or bossed around.

I've been in a call center company just a year ago and I've lasted around just 7 months, because the workplace was great on their marketing campaign, but HORRIBLE once you get inside. I was a sales call agent, and we had these "quotas" to reach for greater incentives and to actually not get fired. The problem is that closing a sale is difficult because the call center company is outsourced by an illegal, predatory lending company in the U.S., (I want to expose those companies so bad) and we had to literally charm (manipulate) our customers into taking our absurd loan offers, which is messed up. Not to mention the supervisor is a fucking narcissist that I ideate torturing and killing her just to slap in her face that I'm the one in control, not her. Well, I quitted that company, got a large sum of salary (part of it allocated to purchasing materials for CTB), and vowed never to surrender my soul again to any companies. I'm planning to either freelance my services or start a business, and if that doesn't work, CTB. Death over slavery.

So relatable! That's why I don't apply for any jobs as all I could get is a min wage job. I'm not a resource I'm a human.

You choose the worst possible kind of company, to work for. They really ought to be illegal. I'm not quick to call for regulations, but they're really just exploiting worker and customers alike.

I think you should give an honest job a try. Even a bottom tier job at a warehouse, is a significant step up. From there you might be able to climb a bit, finance education, or just apply for better jobs as you get more experience.

I had similar job as a medical insurance sales agent and lasted about a year. They only paid us 5% of the commissions they received from the insurance companies (and what you'd usually receive by working for them directly). They were constantly trying to get us to sell more too, and even fired people who did their best and got good numbers but couldn't work consistently due to their chronic medical condition, specifically one girl literally was on the verge of dying due to chronic lung condition caused by a preexisting condition and getting covid at the office, and had lost her medicaid from getting too many sales, and they fired her two days after she got a doctor's note recommending her to not work more than 3 hours a day in order to not worsen her condition. Thy fired practically everyone in the bottom 50% of sales per day, hired new people, then repeated the process every couple of months and then would lie and brag about having low turnover rates. They also admitted (and bragged) about lying during interviews to "motivate" people to join the company to my face ABOUT THE VERY THINGS THY LIED TO ME ABOUT. And do you want to know where all that money was going? yearly fucking cruise ships for upper management and top 5 or so sales agents that always just so happened to be the same people who had been at the company for years or were extremely chummy with upper management. Of course, their sales were real, just obtained by literally using techniques to manipulate clients or have plausible deniability when selling to demented (with alzheimers) old people by directing the calls in a way to prevent any certainty about their mental capability, then brag about it. There was even a convicted Grapist hired as a manager who wouldn't sell anything himself (since legally he couldn't) who they had direct other people on how to sell. Problem with that was is that he had even worse morals than I thought since the one time I let him give me a set, he practically threatened (with upper management's approval) me to sell an old stubborn guy who couldn't afford food without the extra money he was getting with his plan a far worse one.

That was just one time though, every single one of them were constantly convincing us to encroach on our own morals for more sales with the constant threat of being fired, and active competition and pitting us against each other since our performance was only graded in relation to our coworkers, so if you got 10 sales a day but the average a day for the week was 11, you were likely to get fired after another week, but if you got 2 and the average was 1, you'd be fine for another week. And again, they were only giving us 5% of what we'd get working for another company, or directly for the insurance we were selling. For reference, A insurer would pay them between 350-600 for certain plans while we'd only get 30 from the company we were working for. I made 10k (after the 95% cut) during the AEP, then received an email from one of the insurers about how much they were paying the company I worked for by mistake, and that's when I couldn't take it any more (Of course I had later looked into the rates and my parent's friends worked at different companies who confirmed the real numbers). They also practically tied us to the office during the enitre AEP, forcing us to work from 9 am to 10 pm ever day except the weekend where we'd get an extra 2 hours of freetime, and "highly recommended" putting in more hours than that "in order to protect our future prospects at the company", which was obviously a threat.... They also refused to count doctors notes as an excuse to miss work, and fired anyone who missed more than four days from the entirety of october to december.... God, just thinking about it makes me understand the weird coworker I was legitemately scared of when they talked about fantasizing about killing our bosses in such vivid detail, because I honestly would too if I wasn't a pacifist.

Anyway, sorry for venting, I just hate sales jobs so much:ahhha:.

Yeah, it's unfortunate. And at first, I thought it wasn't really bad until it just hit on my head that what we are doing is illegal. The company really sets us a perspective that we are just trying to offer help to unfortunate people (by signing outrageous loan agreements lol, but those people really have no choice due to their dire situations). Also the heavy gaslighting. We have a lot of employee activities and reward system (something like that) just to drown out frustrations and low employee retention.

I'm not quick to call for regulations, but they're really just exploiting worker and customers alike.
As far as I know, the lending companies who outsource us is actually on the page of Better Business Bureau (which is an agency that deals with scam businesses), but I guess no action is being taken against them. The call center itself is legal here for sure

I think you should give an honest job a try. Even a bottom tier job at a warehouse, is a significant step up. From there you might be able to climb a bit, finance education, or just apply for better jobs as you get more experience.

Right now, I'm a student in a college with free tuition. Before, asides from the call center job I had, I was a bookkeeper in a family business for a year (until now), which I guess already counts as a good experience if I'm going on that career path (which I'm actually passionate about, although I don't have time for expansion due to studies). Again, I'm hesitant to apply for any job because I don't like being controlled by managers or supervisors. That leaves me an option for self-employment or CTB if everything fails.

I feel you. I worked in retail. One of the worst work fields (or maybe is the worst). All colleagues were friendly, including managers, but it would never help to cover how shitty the work itself is. I wasn't nice with rude customers and could stand up for myself but the work is so torturous anyway. I had 12 h shifts with a 2/2 schedule. It was extremely exhausting, I always wanted to sleep. They offered me to get a promotion to manager - it's has more responsibility and a bigger salary but less time for life and sleeping. Managers in that shop chain also have a 2/2 schedule but they must open and close stores, so they work for 16-17 h, from 7 to 23. It's terrible.

The most annoying moments for me were the days when a regional manager or another "big boss" visited us. These guys are always so pretentious but they seem to have no idea what a shop is and how it works. For example, some shelves could be a bit empty and there weren't enough workers to restock them. The regional manager was unhappy about that. I mean... what were we supposed to do? it's a peak hour with a lot of customers. It's not our fault that the company decided to save money instead of hiring enough workers. Also, it was irritating when we had an inventory taking. Everyone was so nervous about it and the results while I didn't give a fuck. I never gave a shit about anything related to this work.

I will never work again. I will never follow these stupid rules, listen to arrogant CEOs or anyone else, never waste my time on that. Lesson learned. Working on someone sucks. Since I didn't finish university and am too stupid to make my own business, I prefer to starve to death, lol.
