  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

Anyone here doesn't ctb because you want to see what new technologies will be developed?
I mean imagining someone ctbing in 1990 before the internet began, or in 1890 before electricity and cars lol

Honestly, it was the reason for me to some degree to not CTB for some time. I was too interested to see how our world will look like in the future, what new devices will be created, how our life will change thanks to them etc.

When the pain is unbearable, it's not anymore in my case, for quite a long time.

I'd have paid for this opportunity, since I don't appreciate technology, and technocrats.

I'd be more impressed by a societal collapse... imagine seeing people coming together to end this mess. that'd be something to live for.

In the past, when I was wealthier and less pessimistic, yes. But now I see how technology is fueling inequality and harming the world, and I'm fearful of the potential horrors of the future.

No, but I'd gladly watch it all go up in flames because of the climate change, solar flares or some shit.

I kinda agree with Ted Kaczynskis take on technology - how it's making us more miserable overall and takes away our freedom bit by bit. I think nowadays we rely on this crap waaay too much, all the useless toys, tablets, phones and all that flashy garbage, little kids glued to the screens before they even learn how to read, yeah this is great, I'm sure their brains are gonna develop just fine...

I do think there's a decent chance (admittedly not high), AGI will happen or at the very least, incredible advances in machine learning technologies such that medical advances will happen.

Maybe not in 10 years, but in 20 years, perhaps.

And if so, it really does solve everybody's problem on here.

Because whatever you're depressed about can be repaired.

Are you bipolar? Ask the machine to help you create a pill or device to help you regulate your moods. Adjust your chemistry so it doesn't feel so wildly horrified by the world.

Are you 60 and feel old, ugly and unwanted by the world?

Ask for a new body. For the machines to repair you, bring you back to 25.

Severe trauma from horrific abuses? Ask the machine to help you resolve them so you're not haunted by it anymore.

And it would be a shame if all we had to do was wait 24 years or something like that..

Sometimes I wonder…

If technology can fix me, yes, but do I want to wait another 20-30 or more years and it not even be possible or by which point I will be dead anyway from my issues?

What I personally am hoping for is that virtual reality will be so good that anyone could live in their own, custom made virtual world.
Maybe there I will finally get laid :pfff:

I am interested in that, as some technologies could possibly benefit us in many ways and could make our lives better. I However nothing would make me want to stay alive honestly.

I don't really care about technologies. Unless they invent a time machine... Otherwise, it doesn't matter to me.

I'm always amazed that so many ordinary people believe they will gain access to spectacular life-extending technologies :haha:
We're only still allowed to exist because we're needed as slaves, cogs in a soul-crushing machine.
Nobody will need ordinary people in the future, kids...

I already feel like the world has passed me by, and I'm a tech enthusiast. I don't think it would hold me back, but I can understand the curiosity.

Lol it literally doesn't even matter, existence is pointless. Witnessing events that impact life does not matter. We all die anyway without any recollection of what we've just seen.
