Looking for a method of relief through pain or mild physical harm that my boyfriend will not find out about when he gets home. Currently hitting my head but do not want a head or eye injury. This is harm reduction atm because it's to prevent me from relapsing into worse behavior. Exercise won't work because my chronic illness prevents me from working out as long as I need to. Thanks.

From what I know holding ice cubes works for some people. It won't do actual harm short-term but it does give you a sort of painful sensation.

Something I grew really fond of when I was recovering from sh was using tweezers to pluck out random hairs on my knees or wherever on my body. It can be painful, but doesn't lead to any real harm. When I brought it up to my therapist she actually stated that it was actually a really good alternative!

i also regularly pluck hairs using tweezers. the sensation can be quite addicting. feeling the smoothness of my skin afterwards is almost like a reward?

I whip myself on my thighs with an old tv cord. It's a little thicker than a charging cable. Gives a nice sting for a couple minutes that feels like a cut. I don't do it hard enough to break skin so there's no scarring.

Holding ice in my palms for as long as I can stand it usually helps me. You can also try snapping a rubber band on your wrist. Usually the sting helps but it is red for a while.

When my nails are longer I like to scratch my legs a lot until they're streaky and red and then I normally just put water/moisturizer on my legs and it might sting but it fades for the most part
