I made another discovery today when testing out a freshly made exit bag. Instead of nitrogen I used a Husky 120V Tire Inflator with a rated output of 27-30 liters per minute. Everything functioned perfectly. The bag was nice a taught without any risks of bursting or flying off. I did not feel really hot right away inside the bag like I did with the nitrogen at 15 LPM. In fact I was quite comfortable and was able to pretend to be an astronaut which was highly amusing. The bag did not deflate nearly as much on inhale which shows me that air probably isn't leaking in. After about two minutes I felt very slightly light headed but medication that can cause that so IDK if being bag boy for a few minutes caused it.

Now this doesn't prove anything it just suggests that 15LPM is not enough to be totally comfortable and that 27LPM wont blow off the bag. (at least I think I'm at 15LPM nitrogen I have no way to accurately measure because welding flowmeters aren't scaled for pure nitrogen).

One more thing. Taller tanks like the 80cuft I have really want to tip over when pushed or if you pull on your hose. I suppose since there isn't any liquefied gas in a welding tank of nitrogen you could operate it on its side so It can't come crashing down, but I'm sure there are lots of other reasons not to do so. Consider ratchet strapping the tank to the bedpost or use a tank cart with chocks on the wheels.

I've been reading through the Exit Bag and Inert Gas Megathread and I discovered what MDB means. It is Mad Dog Brewing which is a defunct gas bottle/accessories dealer from Australia. I GODDAMN HATE NON-STANDARD ABBREVIATIONS!!! You guys have GOT TO STOP using them. Its a huge problem on this forum. It may save you a second or two at the most but it costs hundreds or thousands of man hours to everyone else. Each reader who isn't hip to the bullshit probably wastes at least an hour trying whilst looking for context clues and searching the web.

Finally I just had another idea. What about a CO2 scrubber for inside the bag to help the N2 remove all CO2??? Or is no one willing to play with me anymore?
idk too much about co2 scrubbers but id just be worried about impacting the seal of the bag if im adding extra things to it, if the co2 scrubber is quite bulky it could make the bag a bit "uneven" on one side if you know what i mean? so the seal might be tighter on one end than it is the other, its not something that id personally do as the gas and the seal not being airtight serves the purpose of flushing co2 but it could potentially make it more comfortable but i mean from my own failed attempt with helium i didnt find the exit bag that uncomfortable tbh

I see what you mean there. I would definity need a larger oven bag mine are only 16"x17.5. Walmart sells a 19"x23.5" but its 12 miles away. Pain in my fucking ass.

that could explain why you had the hot feeling then maybe? if the bag is smaller there is less gas inside of it and therefore less to flush out co2, it would also be closer to your face so it might produce a mild "suffocation" feeling bc the plastic of it is close to you

the pph says this
"The bag should be large enough to fit easily over the person's head. A suitable plastic bag should
measure ~35cm x 50cm and be made of ~50 micron plastic."

but ive found a bag of this size is hard to come by but that means your bag is on the smaller side in terms of the "suitable standards", closest in size ive come by is a 35x43cm online, but i think the bag i used last time when i attempted was too big bc it was 55x60cm which is prob part of the reason why my attempt failed, its a nightmare to find an appropriate sized bag

who wouldve thought that a piece of plastic would be one of the biggest barriers standing between me and death.. lol kinda funny to think about that but its annoying that its so hard to find one the right size

BRO!!! Tell me about man. Jesus Christ! Freakity Frack!!!! I had to take some anxiety medication to settle down several times over this stupid bag! Not an arts and crafts guy on a good day and I don't have good days anymore. What would be amazing is a EEBD Hood, but since its safety gear and they charge out the ass I'm priced out. And for liability reasons nobody sells them used or to regular people.

Off to the store yet again. I was really hoping I already made my last Walmart trip but whatever. I was already disappointed when I didn't wake up death this morning.

Thanks for the chat. I'll give an update once I try the bigger bag.

im not an arts and crafts guy either so one of my worries is that ill spend all of this money on my cylinders and the regulators etc and then just not be able to put the bag together đź’€ but realistically ive got hours and hours to dedicate to it so ill get it eventually and if worse comes to worse i learned how to tie a noose knot last night but genuinely its so frustrating to source all of the parts to this method, i wonder if anyones managed to find the legendary 35x50cm oven bag

ive looked into eebd hoods (briefly) but ive got no idea what a "good quality" one would look like but afaik you would need the gas to flow at a higher rate, which means needing a larger quantity of gas which isnt something thats feasible for me bc i wouldnt be able to carry a massive cylinder down a flight of stairs

I'm not a crafty person either & I dreaded making my exit bag, but it was easier than I thought. You'll be fine. I know hoods look more professional or sophisticated or whatever, but I honestly think exit bags are better. Sometimes simple is a good thing. I've chatted with a few people who did experiments with hoods, disliked them, and were planning on moving on to exit bags instead.

yeah, i think eebd hoods were brought into the discussion because most people find it uncomfortable to put a plastic bag over your head, but its not something that i mind at all, its much simpler which is why ive not really looked into eebd hoods, bags proven to be effective + idc about having one over my head so im happy to go with that

Hi, I don't have an answer unfortunately as I'm trying to figure things out too. But was wondering if you're still going to be getting a regulator with flowmeter?

I find the thought of first responders seeing me with a bag on hilarious. You can't tell but I'm smiling in both pictures.

No sense in testing with nitrogen again here at the house. I don't want to die at home because my cats will eat me and that might make them sick. Also my folks would have quite the nasty decomposed mess to clean up as I live alone and nobody comes to check on me.

Oh I already have one. Check my prior posts in this thread. I'm using the one pictured below.

Check out the mega thread on this subject. IDK why its not sticky where all can easily find it.

i think the bag makes it a bit "less traumatic" for them compared to other methods but im immature so at first i thought it was kinda funny that im most likely going to use an oven bag to end my life it just feels so unserious bc its used to cook turkeys and suicide is such a serious thing idk it just felt a bit ridiculous

when i was younger (13-14) i was considering attempting just by suffocating myself with a plastic bag and i remember looking in the pantry at all the ones stored in my house and thinking "i think ill go with the tesco bag bc its a better shop than aldi" such a silly thought process

Well I just couldn't wait try out my brand new bag. And its VERY PROMISING!! I set the regulator for 20LPM of Argon and did the other steps as normal. I did not feel hot or uncomfortable at all. Much better experience than the smaller 16"X17.5" @ 15LPM. I only had the bag on for about 30 seconds as my vision started to change. I feel like if I left it on for another minute I might have blacked out.

Unfortunately I have another purchase to make. Wrist Restraints. I'm gonna go with the medical kind that have the side release plastic buckles so in an emergency I can still free my hands. Fuck it maybe some for ankles as well. Wouldn't want to accidently kick my tank over and turn it into a missile. I'm gonna secure the tank to something also so don't worry.

Oh yeah I had forgotten my high school science. That's good information but I'm looking for a CO2 scrubber. I'm gonna try some hydrated lime or some pickling lime if I can find it locally. I will no doubt have to construct some kind of containment with a fan to circulate. Probably stuff whatever contraption into a hat I can wear inside the bag. I got most of what I think I need in the barn.

I got this inspiration from the debreather device that never made it into production. Might help.
