Hey guys I just wanted to show y'all an easy way to get setup with a nitrogen hypoxia "system". My wrists hurt so I can't type allot so I'll only go into detail upon request.

My total cost is right at $200 USD and nothing has to be ordered online. I got everything I needed locally.

It's SOO easy that anyone can do it.

Yeah it is. I wonder how long it will run at 15L a minute. You really think I aught to get a bigger one or maybe another one? Used tanks can be hard to come by because they are usually owned by a company. Maybe I can convince my local welding shop to let me exchange my 20 for a 40 and pay the difference.

Now I'm sad

Edit: google says 20 cuft tank will run for 38 minutes. Is that cutting it close?
Okay I called the welding store and they said the price difference between a 20 cu ft and a 44 cu ft is a few dollars. So I am going to take your advice and upgrade for basically the price of the gas. This information should hold true for other stores so any lurkers out there take note. I recommend a mom and pop store because AirGas, Praxiar or Linde is gonna charge an arm and a leg. (I'm in the US for context)

exit says a 2.2L cylinder at 200 bar will suffice, but on here, its recommended to have at least 40 mins of gas flow so that death is guaranteed and you can test your setup a bit, so its only slightly under, it should be fine, iirc the average "time to die" with this method was 13 minutes

Ok, don't be sad! This can be fixed.

Google said that? I think it's math is off. From everything I've read about it here, the 20 won't run for more than 20 minutes.

I got the 40, because I think that runs for about 40 minutes. I haven't looked at what size runs for how long at 15lpm in a while. I knew someone who CTB'd with a 20, but I don't feel comfortable with that time limit, especially if I want to do any tests.

Idk, imo you should talk to them and see what they're willing to do for you.

Better safe than sorry, imo.

Okay I hear y'all. I am going to get the larger tank because of course if its worth dying its worth overdying. But since I already have this one full I'll do a test run as soon as I get the exit bag made. That way we will all know more or less what the deal is and I get more comfortable with the process. I don't want to die it's just I am unable to keep living. End stage capitalism has become terminal for me.

Edit: I'm planning on doing this in a motel room or my car. Is releasing that much gas into a car or room gonna be a hazard to first responders?

Put a note on the door saying nitrogen with a warning marker. In a car it shouldn't be a problem.

I think that's a great idea. Overkill is better than underkill. I'd like to live, too, but I can't under the circumstances, and the circumstances are permanent.

No need to worry, it won't pose a risk to first responders. Nitrogen is not toxic. The air we breathe already is mostly nitrogen, and air with a negligible amount of extra nitrogen in it isn't hazardous. Not in the slightest.

Put a note on the door saying nitrogen with a warning marker. In a car it shouldn't be a problem.

Not hazardous. No warning necessary (but it might be nice to let them know that it's only nitrogen, and nothing that could harm them).

nitrogen is inert gas so i wouldnt worry at all, in fact 78% of our air is nitrogen, its harmless unless in a very enclosed space, i am going to put a note wherever its visible which says that its nitrogen, i just dont want first responders to panic when they see a dead body right next to a gas cylinder, theyre likely not familiar with exit bags / inert gas asphyxiation, so its just an optional thing im doing for others peace of mind

Here's the flow regulator I'm using. It's not the best quality but it only has to work the one time. I paid $50 for it which was probably a rip off. Certainly don't pay much more than $50 if you can help it. The fittings are for attaching a hose and are NOT INCLUDED. I was sold the incorrect size barb at the welding shop so just be careful when you purchase. Different gases have different fittings to prevent accidents so don't assume its gonna fit just because it looks like it. I bought the "correct" (Idk they fit and I didn't explode) from a hardware store for $16. And use Teflon tape were applicable.

Thanks for sharing your setup! You make it look so easy. I'm interested in this method but it seems complicated to me.

Can I ask - which parts did you purchase at the welding shop? I am able to purchase a nitrogen tank from a welding shop online and have it delivered. They said they have regulators too but I don't know which one to ask for. And should I ask them about a barb?

And what did you tell the shop the tank is for? If they asked that is. I'd have to communicate through email with the welding shop so just want to make sure I say the right thing and am able to get the right parts.

The regulator flowmeter and a tank exchange

Yes, but only empty can be shipped and they are heavy so shipping is $$$
but I don't know which one to ask for.
Argon flowmeter regulator with CGA-580 connector
And should I ask them about a barb?
Yeah ask for a hose barb with a 3/8" flare connector and make sure it screws in before you leave. Or check with a hardware store. You can show them the picture of those packages and they will know whats up.
And what did you tell the shop the tank is for?
I didn't tell them anything as they didn't ask. I bought an empty tank on Facebook Marketplace and asked for an exchange with a full one. (Note the tank has to be less than ten years since last inspection or it CANNOT be exchanged the date is always stamped on the top of the tank.) Pure nitrogen isn't suitable for welding so if they are really grilling you (which they won't as long as its a local store not a national chain) say its for your plasma cutter. You can also claim to be an HVAC guy's helper just getting the nitrogen for purging AC lines, but I wouldn't say anything.
