this will probably be my last inquiry before I ctb with scuba. Do you any of you know how to test nitrogen purity in simple terms? I read some use a gas flow restrictor but is that the same as a regulator? I bought an oxygen detector that was recommended just waiting on it to deliver and have a 40 cuft cylinder though am a tad afraid of using too much for testing.

What are you trying to test? If you want a simple test you can light a candle in a container and gently put N2 into the container.
If you bought from a reputable supplier you shouldnt need to test anything

Sometimes they can lie about the purity of nitrogen. Sometimes they can say it's "99.999% pure N2" and then it's actually less pure than that, though not always the case it depends where it was purchased.

I think it's better to measure the concentration of oxygen instead of nitrogen. Oxygen analyzers are available on amazon.
