I've been having some pretty nasty night terrors recently and I know it always helps me to share them so I wondered if anyone else wanted to share when they normally can't to see if it helps them too!

I'll start:
My night terror the other night was like no other one I've had before (they all feel like that every time I think). I remember it all so vividly but the bit that really stuck with me is it felt like my consciousness was split into two, asleep me having the dream still and awake me being completely frozen trying to wake up desperately screaming, panicking and trying to wiggle my toes (a technique my dad taught me to wake up from sleep paralysis) but blinded by the images of the dream. I've not been able to sleep well since even with my sleep meds, ptsd is a bitch.

I used to get these all the time in my 20s. Felt paralysed, really uncomfortable and afraid. Sometimes I thought that I'd come out of it but was only deluded. Eventually I fell asleep and woke up normally in the morning.

It seemed to stop after I turned 30, which is also when the intense nightmares about my psychopathic family slowed right down. So it probably does relate to PTSD.

I get night terrors regularly so I'm not even afraid anymore. Most of my night terrors weren't "shadows in the corner" or "monsters on my bedsheet" kind of things that people have but more environmental??? I feel like my soul just traveled to another dimension of pure darkness and there was noise so deafening it usually wakes me up.

I had this type as a kid often, I'd be in a void that was so dark and quiet and then there would be a sudden jump scare of my abusers face and them yelling and I'd wake up sweating under my bed. It's some of the worst ones I've had honestly, I'm glad they stopped and I hope they stop for you too💕

Last night, I woke up terrified and crying from a dream that it was finally ending and my parents were there with me. I spend so much time fantasizing about dying as if it's the ultimate goal but when I woke up from this dream I felt so much pain and despair. It felt like the most terrifying thing to me and that really shook me up because I typically wish for death but in this moment I just felt so afraid of it.

Ironically, I just woke up from a nightmare of my parents' murder suicide. It didn't start with them initially but through dream's weird mechanics, my mom was killed and my dad killed himself. The fact that it is a realistic possibility is the most troubling aspect. And the fact that I'll have to take care of my siblings

I'm the same! I can't watch horror content like i used to because it was making my nightmares horrific, I'm 22 and sleep with a nightlight bc of it 💀

I've had a lot of these types of dreams and even my partner has bc of my family history. They're really upsetting, I hope it doesn't affect you much today. I know these sorts of dreams can make me spiral

I totally empathise with you, I fantasise about it constantly but then I have a dream where I can't breath and it shakes me for days. The lingering feeling of these sorts of dreams are so nasty, I hope you feel better about it soon ❤️‍🩹

I don't sleep on my back, I sleep on my side or front with props to stop movement. I have a long family history of sleep paralysis so I know all the tricks to try stop it happening as much/how to wake up faster. It does suck worse on you back though
