I wonder if 'the authorities' view suicidal people as a potential threat to their obsession with power. A group of similarly minded suicidal people, seeing-through and tired of the status quo, might upset the elite's grip on power if the socio-economically depressed organized a revolt. Or a possibly a united people who don't care to live (suicidal) might unite for a worthy cause to die for.
An average person with their wage slavery bring in atleast 5-10k in taxes for the government. One less wage slave is one less avenue to earn 5-10k. And that's just the taxes, then you have to consider taxes on their grocery bills,taxes on their car, taxes on the license plates of those cars, taxes on their own property, the money they have to burn on water and electricity and you realize what a big fucking cash machine an average person is. Even better if they are a family because kids are fucking stupid and need even more money to raise.
Everything is decided by politics in this world, except politics, it is decidedly emotions,power and religion.
Whatever helps keep the emotions of the general brain dead masses in control and calm, is what the lawmakers and politicians will go with.
