I feel like I would be at peace if I was living by myself in the woods rather than living in society. I would even go as far as saying that society is evil in how it teaches you from a young age to become a slave to it.
One of the best times I had living was when my family and I went to a small village for a week.
Do you guys think your mental health would improve if you lived outside of society?

p.s. RIP Ted Kaczynski

Yes but the amount of labor is brutal, especially if you're doing it alone. You're also responsible for keeping all your systems running which I find too stressful. It's a good fantasy though, or actually doable if you're not really that isolated or you have people with you.

But even if you live in isolation (as I long to) you're still a member of society. Unless of course you mean completely off grid, totally self sufficient with hunting and gathering (not forgetting preserving and storing) your only means of sustenance. No internet, books, TV, games. Nothing but what you've built with your own hands (and sourced the raw materials). No-one but you to repair anything if it breaks. No medical assistance - or modern medicines. Society isn't some evil system. It's *everything* around you, including the means with which you're accessing this site.

Our ancestors spent most their time in nature with just their tribe we aren't made to be cooped up like we are

I've always wanted to escape society and other people, and be somewhere I could truly be alone. I've always wanted to live in isolation. However, that's not practical, especially for survival purposes. The best way for me to escape is to ctb. I don't want to be a member of society. I don't want to have to participate in it. I also view society as evil. I hate how we're indoctrinated into becoming slaves to it

I don't know how far is this outside of society but I always just wanted a simple life,

I wanted after the age of 30 to just live away from people. I would just buy a land and make it a farm, I will just buy some cattle, get some machines that process my stuff and just live my day working at my farm doing chores everyday.

I would not need to go outside or have that many human interactions outside my farm unless I am needing a service or something which I could afford if I traded it with crops and milk lol.

I think society just forces us to be part of something which might not fit us all.

Cheers,
Joe

I understand what you are saying. I didn't use the right words to get my point across. I don't have a problem with society and community as a whole. I take issue with the modern capitalistic society where it's do or die, everyone for themselves.

I'm a socialist, have been for decades. There's no way to opt out of capitalism without being a hypocrite. Isolationism doesn't work particularly well either (yes, looking at you, North Korea). The only way to a create a better society in reality rather than just on paper is to work for it, whether that's in your direct community or through a trade union or political activity, either party politicial or single issue campaigns.
