Jesus chris this thread. I've never been on anything like this (yet) but was pointed here by @Dead Ghost on a thread I made about SSRI's having pretty much been confirmed as useless this year. Good knowledge for me any many others, so wanted to bump.

Drug allergies. Naming but not shaming.

Antibiotic allergies:
Augmentin (amoxicillin + clavulanate) & Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole + trimethoprim) - itchy macular/painful papular rash—painful papular variant kept me awake at night.

Antibiotic side effects:
Levaquin (levofloxacin) - bloating, nausea, itchy macular rash

I'm reading here again and again quetiapine makes people tired or turns then into a zombie, unfortunately it doesn't do that to me, much the contrary I feel absolutely no effects guess that's why I gonna name quetiapine here
Lamotrigine too, no effects
I'm gaining weight tho and maybe the fault is in one of those

Lithium may stop my manic episodes, but it also makes me into a zombie. (And I'm still severely depressed to the point of being suicidal, so... yeah.)

Escitalopram - I have mixed feelings about this one. Yes, it makes me less depressed. Yes, it makes my anxiety only half as intense. However, it also makes me emotionally numb and give a damn far less; I legit have almost no filter on this stuff. It also caused me to gain 30-ish pounds that were a pain to lose.

Hydroxyzine - Can't have a panic attack if I'm knocked out cold, I guess. I hesitate to use this one as a sleep aid, as well, because it makes me extremely groggy the next morning for the entire day.

My problem with psych meds is that most did not cause any noticeable effects, good or bad. This changed when I was switched to atypical antipsychotic medication. Boy, did that shit pack a punch! Between lightheadedness, burning eyes, headaches, and irritability, I was not in for a good time with Lamictal/lamotrigine, which is usually well-tolerated by people. Quetiapine/Seroquel was surprisingly much more manageable, but the massive weight gain led me to drop it completely. My next adventure will be with lithium.

Aripiprazole and Flupentixol both made me feel extremely agitated where sitting still was very painful.

Quetapine made me feel like a a zombie and I put on almost 90 pounds in less than 2 years. Lost almost all that weight within 6 months of stopping it though.

Sertraline took away almost all my emotion, couldn't laugh or cry anymore

Venlafaxine made me sweat like crazy, only took it for a few months during the winter and couldn't stop sweating, can only imagine how bad it would have been in the summer if I was still on it!

This thread is a complete eye opener. I also feel I can connect with a lot of these experiences. I've tried a lot of medications, and I feel a lot of them come with consequences. Maybe something gets better but something else gets worse. I keep reading articles online about people with bipolar who can't be without medications and how it's a must. But then I read a lot of stories in places like here, and I share a lot of stories of how they can sometimes make things difficult.

Here are some of my top worst in order of worst I guess:

1. Risperidone (Risperdal): Where do I even begin with this one. Total zombie. Doctor would not believe me. I think I had all of the side effects available. He thought I was exagerating. I could not stop fidgeting nor sit down. Felt like a zombie. Weight gain. Had to sleep all the time. Could not do work or think, had to go on disability. He finally listened to me when I started milking out of my breasts. Yeah I was not pregnant and started producing milk. Very strange side effect.

2. Adderall: They thought I had ADHD. Combined it with Prozac. Went completely insane and manic. Never slept never ate. Thought everyone was trying to kill me and poison me. Lost a lot of friends. Very addictive and withdrawal was the worst. I still find myself really addicted to it but this one's bad.

3. Quetiapine (Seroquel): Terrible terrible. Turned me into a zombie as everyone here says. Was not able to function at all. Was drinking coffee all day and still like a total sloth.

4. Bupropion (Wellbutrin): Made me go completely manic. Thought I was some sort of destined God. Was seeing hearing things. Did not eat or sleep. Went completely crazy not even a point to explain all the nonsensical stuff I did during this time period.

5. Aripiprazole (Abilify): Just made me nauseous and dizzy all the time with headaches incapacitated.

6. Clonazepam (Klonopin): One of the first ones. Once you have a taste of Klonopin it's hard to regress. So many overdoses on this one, nearly died a few times. So hard to get it prescribed though. I really do miss it though I'm not sure why I have it the worst one here. Maybe I wouldn't be as messed up if I had never encountered this.

7. Lithium: I have always refused Lithium because both of my brothers were prescribed to it at a very young age. (one 13 and one 8) I saw them salivate themselves, piss themselves and have nervous ticks. So I have always refused this drug.

8. Sleeping Medications: I don't remember their names. But was prescribed a lot of these and it's similar to Klonopin. Overdosed on a lot and would wake up with my own vomit. Their like a curse.

Omeprazole: They may work for some people, they did not work for me. I would only feel slightly better after taking them for about 6-7 days, then I'd start feeling even worse again if I took one the next day. And of course, when I tried to stop taking them (even when weening myself off of them), I'd suffer terrible acid rebound.

It was only when going back on them a third time taking double the dosage, the burning sensation did eventually go away but my upper torso still felt swollen and sore on the inside. Got moved onto Lansoprazole about a month ago. Thankfully those worked much better for me and finished the full month's course. Currently now in the process of weening myself off on those with some spares I got because I've read it's not recommended to stay on PPIs for too long as they can cause other long term issues.

Honestly, I can't really tell how meds affect me but I've taken Buspar, propranolol, Ritalin and Adderall before. I heard that Buspar can cause long-term damage and has side effects that psychiatrists don't tell you about

Escitalopram - PSSD

Pregabalin - +40kg, holy shit the withdrawals i still remember them. Almost felt like the start of my long covid. The nausea. The insomnia. Horrific.

Quetiapine - +40kg, angry zombie. Parents drugged me to keep me """manageable""" aka not have to spend any time or effort with me as a kid and then they dared to wonder why i was a tired fatso lol

Benzos - one actually helpful thing since i never got dependent, never took more than 1 during 2 weeks no exceptions. Works perfectly well for ocassional insomnia (since i cant afford to have any now)

 

[Forever Sleep]

Fluoexetine (Prozac.) Didn't seem to do anything but give me a metallic taste in my mouth. I'm relieved it was no worse though- reading other people's experiences.
