I am actually eligible for this kind of stuff but I dont have so much money. And where I live I can do it for free but I get rejected once because of my age. I am trying to do it again as its progressing but it is such a long process.

This just seems so ridiculous to me. So they accept people who are mentally ill. They accept people who are over the age of 18… but not people who are mentally ill AND 'young' ? Who decides what qualifies as 'young' anyway ?! Like what age is the cut off point then ?

I'm so sorry. It is terrible that they won't accept people suffering from chronic conditions and mental illness. It's some kind of stupid myth that mental illnesses are curable or treatable - when so many of us suffer for so many years. They turned me down too. However many years on, I would still like to exit.

You're reading only part of the qualifications. The first requirement is to have a terminal illness. If you don't satisfy that criterion, the remainder don't matter.

That is based on Swiss Law. Not Pegasos being arbitrary jerks.

It's probably because you're volatile. They probably only accept people who have been dealing with it for 10 or 15 years and overall stable with themselves. I.E not actively suicidal

It is an age thing - I think they said to me because I'm under 50 and also they don't do mental illness. At least they can do some assisted dying, but within the confines of public opinion :( Rather than the reality of the suffering that people endure.

I don't want to hijack this thread. But what many of us would like is to have assisted dying to end our suffering, so we can die with dignity, say goodbye to people if we'd like to, and end our suffering.

Instead, we have to scrabble around for methods of varying degrees of lethality, plan our deaths in secret, and suffer alone. Were it not for this forum.

My mistake, terminal illness is not an explicit requirement for VAD in Switzerland. But the many orgs do require it, because assisting suicide is only allowed for altruistic reasons.

No reason I physically can't handle my affairs alone. But to me dying under medical assistance, with my family and loved ones legally allowed by my side, instead of spending my last moments terrified and alone seems a lot more pleasant to me but idk call me crazy ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'm sorry you are dealing with this. I see the right to die as really important as we did not ask to be alive in the first place, so we have no obligations to stay alive. We deserve the option of a peaceful dignified death. The hotlines at the end just invalidate the suffering you are going through. I wish you well.

It's kinda sad that we still treat death like something that is the worst that could happen when its actually as normal as something can be. Just as u life u die. Is it rly so hard to understand for society and goverment that it is ok to leave early ? Why do I have to wait for a natural cause to kill me ? Why do I have to suffer ?
I guess that I'll never understand why it is like this in our society..... It's not like we would still believe that u go to hell after suicide. At least the majority doesn't think that way. Yet we still say that everyone has to keep going until... Yeah until when do we have to go ?
We still have a very far way to go as a species. We still see ourselfs and think that everyone has to go the same. But as I believe there's no objectivity in this universe. Just millions of subjects. So let the subject decide what's the best. Let him choose his faith. Let him go with dignity.
Nobody has the right to tell some1 that he has to live. Not Ireland or any person out there.
I'm sorry for u. That it won't work out. It's sad that u would take such a long trip to have an end with dignity and yet even countrys that allow such things are still very strict.
And just as others mentioned: WTF are these numbers..... Did they ever deal with depressed people ? It's like a slap when u needed a hand to help u up.
How is it going with the other plan u mentioned before in your other post ? Are u getting close to your cope / alternate method ?
