I was upset the other night and said that I wished I wasn't here and that I wished I could kill myself.

My husband told me that I'd have to have my cats and other pets put down as he didn't want to be left with them.

It makes me worry about my pets. My youngest cat needs medication and I don't think anyone would take her on as the medication is expensive (it's an inhaler).

I can't ask the vet to put them down, what would I say?

I am also concerned about the well-being of my pets. I could never put them down with me though. Maybe consider posting a few ads on FB or craigslist or something? There are PLENTY of places where you can surrender your pets that will take care of them- I suggest doing some research on it, might bring you some peace of mind.

Sadly I once took two of my pets to the vet. I said I am losing my job and I want to euthanize them. They were okay with it, but I decided not to. If a vet says no you can always try a different one.

I deeply regret not euthanizing one of my cats or finding her a better home but that can be impossible. She was very anxious and I only hope she is no longer living.

It sounds like your husband is taking what you say seriously and thinking about the pets and his lack of desire to care for them. I'm sorry you are in this situation...and I do think putting them into shelters is very traumatic for them.

I'm sorry you are going through this, it sounds stressful. If I was in that situation, I would also maybe try to see if there was a home for the cats, somebody else who would take them in as I agree that a shelter would frighten them. I agree with what the user said above. I see it as important making sure pets are taken care of. I wish you the best.

Sounds like your husband might be part of the reason you feel that way, no offense. Make sure to find them good homes before you do anything permanent, they are innocent and shouldn't suffer.

Okay, I try very hard not to judge but when it comes to helpless animals I am an advocate. You took on the responsibility of these animals and it is your responsibility to see it through. Take them to a no kill shelter, find someone who will adopt them, do something - DO NOT put them down because your husband told you to. I want to ctb so bad I can taste it, but I have one 12 year old cat that no one wants to adopt because of her age and medical issues. I am waiting until she goes. Please Please do not kill these precious lives

i volenteer at a wildlife conservation park and plan on requesting my cockatiels to be surrendered there in their small parrot aviary. i know they take in surrendered parrots. as for my lizard, i'd request that too, but because that might be more of a difficult task because they need to be housed seperately and i dont see any spare reptile enclosures at the park. so, i'll say as a second choice to rehome him, but not online maybe to a family friend or friend of a friend.. i'm too scared to let them be rehomed online, parrots and reptiles are both often mistreated pets.

The only reason I'm still here is because of my dogs...two of them are fairly old seniors (8 and 13) and the thought of them in shelters keeps me here (though, in reality, I don't think my family or friends would let that happen). I actually recently took on raising a puppy that I may or may not keep just to see if that gave me something new to live for. So far it has but life has taken some not great turns. I also have a young crested gecko that I care for...all in all, the only reason I've remotely hesitated is because of my animals. But I also understand how you get to a point where going on is just impossible. I don't have an answer...I'm sorry your husband isn't willing to keep them for you, that makes it so much harder. <3

Lots of places will help you rehome pets in the event of a crisis. This is something I had to do myself and it sucked but it's the most fair thing for them, I made a promise and I'll uphold it until I'm gone. Willing to help you find some rescues in your area if needed, and I'm sure there's prolly some other services near you that can do the same. I'm sorry for what you're going thru <3

edit- btw that is a horrible callous thing for your husband to say, would be nice if he could focus more about supporting you than worrying about scooping a litterbox

My cats mean the world to me. Thankfully my cat sitters will adopt my 2 if and when anything happens to me. I think the OPs husband was really uncaring both to her and her animals.
