Yup, this is terrifying.
Some people still have that shred of hope that they will get saved, I suppose. That someone, anyone, will finally care.

If you wanna ctb, plan it right. But if you wanna "cry for help" don't use such a lethal method, FFS...

Im glad im not the only who gets annoyed when reading this story. It was better for him to die than go through this.

In a civilized society he'd get euthanized, because you know, that would be a basic human right.

The article even says that he still wants to die. This is so tragic and not many things make me emotional nowadays but reading this is awful.

Edit: I wonder how effective it would be to add in a suicide note that if I survive my attempt and end up in a similar state to this I will still want to die and that it won't change and that I'd like people to attempt to confirm with my in any way that I still want to die and allow me to have that god given right. If I've already exhausted all my other options as an able-bodied person and I've spent years analysing my mental pain then I am 100% going to still want to die if I end up severely disable or "a vegetable". I'm already not free and trapped enough in this world.

Surely there are such precautions you can take because when you reach the point this man is in I'm pretty sure at the very least dignitas would take you on.

Odds are, if she hears something like that statement, the irony would be lost on her.

The medical profession needs new guidelines for what is considered "brain dead" as in legally dead.

"In the United States and many other countries, a person is legally dead if he or she permanently loses all brain activity (brain death) or all breathing and circulatory functions."
https://www.livescience.com/42301-brain-death-body-alive.html

Breathing can be done by organisms we dont consider have a brain? We dont consider that plants (or organisms?) capable of photosynthesis have a brain?

Quality of life is perhaps the most important aspect of life. I consider life support for vegetative state the cruelest act of torture.

You've seen BoJack, haven't you? What are the odds those animals would give others basic human rights?

She thinks that she's in the right, since according to her, keeping him alive is undeniably right.

And since she has power, her will shall prevail.

This makes me sick to my stomach.
"Saved"
The saddest part is thinking about how he, a shell of himself, cannot do a thing to fix this now.
I asked my own mother recently why should i live in suffering just because you want me around...
Make someone live while they're screaming to get out.
How is this not cruel and unusual punishment?

Similar thing happened to my uncle few years ago. He didnt try to ctb but he had some sort of amnesia wich becomes worse every week.
Back than i had the power of faking and continue my normal daily live but i know someday i try to ctb and turn into something similar to him.
I asked them why you guys not let him die. He basicly plugged in to machine, almost brain dead, with non functioning body. If you really care about him you shouldnt torture him that way and let him go.
They said how can you let your own brother die.

The mother is disgusting! Said before about others being selfish by not just letting you go, this just proves it. Her mentality is probably "well he ain't dead so at least I'm happy" as far as I'm concerned mother or not, she has now given him a fate worse then death, the suffering he wanted to end is now 1000x more.

Her face and her smile makes me want to get in her face and scream at her while shaking her like crazy. Her ignorance! He is suffering! I don't understand how she can claim that she loves her son when she's basically condemning him to a lifetime of torture and cruelty. I wonder how his twin feels about all of this ...

What a horrible outcome...
I am wondering whether writing a note like "I am fully concious writing this down, DO NOT REANIMATE ME! (signature)", would have helped.

Once she'll die, he'll be in a psychiatric hospital for the rest of his life and if he refuse to eat, they'll force feed him through a tube until he dies of old age, let alone all the absurb dosage they'll be giving him as he cannot defend himself, he would have then spend most of his life looking at the wall.

I'm blessed that I can safely hang myself at home but I would still rather go through with c02 on a camping site.

Unfortunately a self written DNR that isn't signed by a doctor means nothing, paramedics are obliged to help you in this situation.

Probably not. This is so fucked up. I'm wondering though, what is that mark on his neck? Did they have to cut it to open his windpipe by chance?
