This is my current favorite song:
Monica Martin looks young (but I don't know anything about her) which adds charm to the song for me. "Go easy, kid. It's only rock'n'roll." I've been alternating this track with one by the Cold War Kids:
I guess I'm enjoying the juxtaposition of toxic optimism with the realization that life is over.

Both of these artists are new to me. I knew about Cold War Kids because they featured Bishop Briggs on a track and SHE. IS. MY. FAVORITE. Her earliest stuff got me through what had been the worst part of my life. She suffered with me in a way, gave me space and permission to suffer with her. And her song "River" is a perfect song. She mixes heavy, sad lyrics with deep electronic bass and powerful vocal emotionality. I ended up at her show on accident when she opened for Alt-J in 2018 and it was the best surprise ever. My friend invited me to go with her at the last minute because her husband couldn't go. I had no idea Bishop Briggs was opening. That girl can put on a show; I was enveloped and transported. Love her art so much.

YES!! Mariah has been dominating my playlists for months! Her debut LP is SO amazing and I knew every word to every song. "Vanishing" was always one of my favorites and still is. It's been interesting to listen to these lyrics as an adult after nearly 30 years. "Vision of Love" is another one that makes new sense.

"I had a vision of love, and that was ALL that you've given to me."

Her debut at the Grammy's is powerful and precious. Highly recommended.
