This too shall pass
Stop listening to that depressing music
Maybe you should volunteer in a domestic violence refuge to help put things into perspective
You don't seem depressed - you laugh a lot
I laughed out loud at your first one, this too shall pass. I have that tattooed round my wrist ! lol
What are you depressed about?
There are people a lot worse off, you know.
Time is a great healer.
My personal favourite, every cloud has a f...ing silver lining !
This anti depressant [ insert name ] will work.

When i told my dad I'm going to commit suicide,
he said "If you plan on leaving this world, please splatter a small basin of water near your doorway, helps deter the demon so that you can go where u want in your afterlife. This suggestion, is not superstition, very effective, your grandpa had experienced it, avoided the danger of death."

Like are you fucked in your head mate?
I'm confused.
I've googled "basin" and found pictures of sinks. Suppose that by "basin" he meant a puddle.
I mean no offense when I ask this - how did it help your grandfather avoid the danger of death?

"It's just teenage hormones!"
And suddenly I am no longer suicidal

"I am NOT homophobic" *proceeds to belittle my bisexuality*
"Not assuming a person is straight is offensive"

"Asking what a person's pronouns are is offensive" *Thinks that asking "are you a boy or a girl" is better*
Like, hunny, you didnt even know nb people existed before this conversation. Why do you have the audacity to try and lecture me?

1. You're too young to be "sad." When you're older you'll understand REAL pain.
What do you mean, REAL pain? Why is some pain considered not REAL, and why am I too young to understand it?

2. (the all too famous) It's just a phase.
Life is just a phase too.

3. Stop being selfish!
Stop being a pain in the ass and I'll consider it.

4. It's all part of god's plan.
Oh, really. If god's that mighty, he'd make sure people had better lives.

5. Look on the bright side.
Would you say that to the WW2 survivors? "Well I know you were put into concentration camps and your family got killed. But at least you didn't die." No! You wouldn't. So don't say it to me.

6. Did you try (insert treatment here)?
Yeah, I tried it, it failed, made me miserable. I'm not stupid you know.

7. Respect your elders.
Seriously, sometimes I think you forget I'm a legal adult. Also, I respect those who deserve it, and YOU DON'T DESERVE IT.

8. You have a good future ahead of you, don't waste it. / You have so much to live for.
My future, my choice. Also, don't you think I tried my best?

9. But you seem so happy! You couldn't possibly be mentally ill.
I'm a good actor. Comes from experience with people like you.

10. Wait... So you're crazy? (When I'm telling new people.)
And you're a brat. Being mentally ill does not make me crazy.

11. Did you take your meds? If you did, you wouldn't be acting like this.
Let's revisit this point, I'm not stupid. Medication isn't an instant cure, also mine just happens to not work at all.

12. Wow, I think I might have OCD too. I like to clean.
First of all, having DID does not mean I have OCD. They're completely different things! Second of all, liking cleaning does not mean you have OCD. If you really think you might have OCD, please, by all means, get it checked out. (Same with depression, dressing in black, having "haunted" eyes, and listening to Billie Elish does not mean you have depression.)

13. Hey, do you think I might have (insert random mental disorder)?
I'm not a psychiatrist. Being mentally ill does not make me an expert in all mental illnesses.

14. Cool. Are you like... the tortured artist type or the misunderstood writer type.
WTF. None of the above! Stop romanticizing mental illness.

15. No no no, depression isn't like that. My relative had it but they acted differently.
Depression and other mental illnesses come in different forms.

16. Be happy for what you have, some have it much worse.
It's not a who-has-the-worst-life competition. Cut it out.

17. Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem.
Great quote, heard it a million times before, I don't care. Plus, DID is incurable, so the problem isn't temporary anymore.

18. Suicide is for the weak/selfish.
And guilt-tripping is for the annoying pro-lifers who won't leave me alone.

19. Think of those you'll leave behind.
Oh, you mean those who abused me and didn't listen when I asked for help? They can go to hell.

20. Call the suicide hotline.
The responders don't know me, they don't care about me, and my decision has already been made.

Me: *decides to open up to a certain person*
Them: *insert something about mysterious, benevolent, invisible sky man*
Me "Please be respectful, I don't believe in that. "
Them: *mad* *preaches harder*
Me: "You people can't take no for an answer can you? Respect boundaries." *walks away
Them: *still mad, still preaching about how sky man works* (which is hilarious as they all have a different cherry picked story).

"Practice makes perfect!"

This really, really pisses me off when I hear it, especially if it is shallow and said without good context! This is, because I don't respond to platitudes well unless I know with a reasonable expectation that I will get the result I am seeking when applied.

"Suicide is not an answer."

- It's annoying because it's not even a proper condemnation, just an absurd, non-sensical platitude that means nothing.

Of course suicide is an answer, it solves many problems. I accept it that we can have a debate about how good of an answer it is, in comparison to other alternatives and perhaps there is a case to be made that it is not the best answer, but it most certainly is an answer.

(Nothing triggers me like bad logic)

It's even funnier when you take into consideration that an "epicenter" is not even synonymous with "origin."

I hate journalists even more than lawyers. I cannot even think of a more loathsome and parasitic profession aside from banking.

Lol I had a boss who used to say "I hear what you are saying..." Which actually meant "I acknowledge that I have indeed heard your words but really I'm not listening, I just want you to feel I am, but now I'm just going to tell you what to think."
He also used to ask "Where are we with that?" Which meant "Where are YOU with that thing I promised someone else that I'd take care of, utterly forgot about, and now need YOU to pull it out the bag for me at the last minute so I don't look like a tosser who never listens?"
Just for fun, I used to use these phrases back at him to see how he'd react. I think he thought we were on the same wavelength.

"people are starving! you have no reason to be sad when you have it so good!"

first of all, things like shelter, water, and food are basic human rights. it should not be a privilege to have these (but in a world corruped to the core, it sadly is). secondly, i don't see any people using this excuse helping said starving kids or acknowledging why they're starving. third, you have no right to use one person's pain to deny another person the right to feel theirs.

Me: I'm depressed
Husband: You're spending too much time on social media and reading about things that make you think you're depressed, but you are not.
Or
H: Why don't you talk with me about this?
Me: Because you don't acknowledge that my depression exists.
H: You're just reading technical terms online and think that you're suffering from depression. Just go out and start exercising, you'll feel better.
Me: I was 8 when I first attempted suicide, there wasn't any social media to influence me, I was depressed then and still am...
H: *crickets* (after 2 mins) You should start exercising outside, you'll feel fine. Can't you take that much trouble to make things better for yourself?
Me: Why don't you educate yourself by reading about depression and learn how to approach/talk to depressed people? Can't you take that much trouble to make things better for me???

Hi there, here are some things that come to mind for me
1. GIVE IT TIME! I particularly despise this one.
2. Life is what you make it.
3. Whats wrong with you? Just suck it up!
4. I have never met someone so negative in my entire life.
5. Your stronger than you think.
6. Your braver than you think. (. In other words these last 2 mean get used to the suffering you can handle it!).
7. Suicide will never be an option! ( Anyone who says this must be closed minded and must have never suffered much. )
8. You'll go to hell!
9. Why don't you ever do anything anymore?
10. So and so has suffered tremendously and they don't complain.

I'm going to have to stop listing reasons like this now because its starting to traumatize me more and get me mad. Lol. Really though This makes me want to ctb now!
