This is so tragic and fucked up. No one cared enough to check on him for 9 whole months, and they wonder why many of us want to ctb... I feel so sorry for this poor man.

The UK welfare system is a mess.

This story wont change Peoples attitude towards the system . Many People in the UK think life on benefits is easy especially my family. My mum told me the other day" don't stress yourself getting a job when they are people on benefits doing nothing " or "why are you feeling guilty for claiming when cheating the system"
My family know people who cheat the system and cant be bothered to work.
Shows like Jeremy Kyle or benefits street have not helped either

Most people dont realise the benefits system has fundamentally changed. Those days of getting pregnant for council flat or getting benefits while doing nothing to find work are over.

Today the welfare state fails to help those who need the most .

•There so many stories of disabled people losing benefits and some have taken thier lives because of this issue. Disabled people it is Not their fault they are disabled. They should be supported by the state

•If your savings are too high you are not eligible for Universal credit lots of self employed people ended up not getting universal credit during the pandemic

I just love hearing people talking about how easy it is to get benefits and sit around doing nothing all day. Just like how I got denied disability AND lost my appeal afanst the decision, despite having moderate-serious brain damage and a ton of other health problems. I've been surviving on job seeker's allowance (less than a quarter of minimum wage) for my entire adult life.

People think this way due to a mixture of personal experience and the media coverage of those benefits is also to blame for these attitudes

I would way pre 2010 the welfare system was joke.
•My stepdad knew numerous people who lived on benefits on his council estate and didn't want to work. He also knew young people that wanted to leave school and go on benefits

•My nan is an immigrant she used to be befriends with other immigrant parents in the neighbourhood. My nan was friends with a Muslim lady from somalia who had 10 children. This woman never worked and didn't even want to. She lived in a council flat. She would give her benefits money to her boyfriend and hang out with friends. This was before the benefits cap

• I had a family member who wanted her own place and freedom from family. She was told by school friends to get pregnant and she will be given a flat by the council. She did exactly this and it worked.
•i used to watch a show on bbc3 called free speech when i started getting interested in politics. They were discussing the welfare system. One woman in the audience mentioned nobody in her family worked(grandmother, mum) however the woman choose to work herself. She said there was culture which worklesss households exist
• I used to read stories in the sun of people faking depression to get benefits

Last year i went to Brighton beach and there was young girl who was bragging about how her mum is going to help diagnosed for depression and signed on benefits.

If you to want work or better yourself in the UK you are not helped at all
-People who work dont get free prescriptions like those on benefits
People who also work dont free dental care whereas those on benefits
-If your savings are too high or your partner is a high earner a person can be denied universal credit

This why is why there is resentment towards those on those benefits because people who work feel like they are getting a raw deal.

The welfare system is a joke it fails those who need

Most people dont realise the benefits system is so unfair to those with disabilities or serious illness.

I use to volunteer in the citizens advice and saw first hand how people who were seriously ill being declared fit to work.

We have a broken welfare system

I don't want to talk about it, because it's a major reason I'm on this site, but the Australian system is a virtual carbon-copy of the British system, with the same horrific results.

There are stories online of people who were NEET who hid their parents bodies so they could keep the pension check coming and cash it for themselves. I seem to recall one story out of japan where a guy got away with this for like ten years

I don't know what's sadder about this story...The fact that it happened or the fact that no one found him for so long.
It is so sad.
What a world...….
Many rural areas are total economic dead zones with dwellings so far apart you can go unnoticed for a long time.

That's true.
Scary thought , in a way , dying alone like that.
One of the reasons I want to CTB is so I don't end up old ,completely alone and broke like that.
(If I don't CBT I probably will.....)

If you have the money here is a great way to do the end of life/CTB: Take final vacation and then CTB. There are many old guys who do this, some of them have even died of heart attacks while porking prostitutes in the countries they visited.

I'm not that age but time goes so fast and the years roll by very quickly. Its the future I suspect I have if I do stay around for that long sadly...
But yeah ,totally agree with your idea of taking an amazing final vacation and spending all your money.
After all ,you can't take it with you...

No you can't not one penny of it and there is nothing worse than an old miser. Its best to give it to charity or spend it if you have no heirs

Agree.
Definitely give to charity and spend. The more I had ,the more I would give and spend.
When I ctb I am planning on giving all my money to my boyfriend and my brother so that they will be taken care of and be able to survive in this world. Anything left over, donate it. I am worried my wishes will not be respected though

That's a nice thing to do.
But you know ,I'm sure your boyfriend and brother love you more than any amount of money.
Not lecturing you though....I fully respect your wish to CTB.
