The retired lorry driver said: "I am never depressed. Being sad wouldn't help anything anyway. I would definitely rather be happy all the time than the other way round. It's an advantage really.

"The stroke could have become my worst enemy but I wouldn't let it. Now I barely even notice that I don't feel sadness."

Shit like this just proves how unfair life is. Most people who have strokes are let in a far worse depressive state but this guy has the benefit of no sadness now. Here i am trying everything to not feel depressed so i can get on with life and yet this guy has a stroke and never feels sad again.

Oh no grandma died! Him: hahahah was about time.. took her long enough to die..

Ohh no our son died in a traffic accident. Him: So what we still got a daughter...

Etc and Etc

Which would be a problem for his family members but hardly for him. We don't know what exactly happened to him so maybe it's only unnatural sadness that is gone from his life. The one you're pressured into by all forces of society all your life. While if his son actually dies you won't see him being entirely indifferent to the event.

i think it depends which region of the brain is affected..they are parts of the brain who are responsible for negatives emotions and parts of the brain for positive emotions...it could have been the other way around and the dude would be miserable and suicidal for the rest of his life even if he would live a millionair playboy lifestyle

Can you be happy and want to die? Or suicidal and want to live?

Damn, I am kind of jealous. Like I would die to not be constantly sad. Literally.

the brain is so fascinating...

do you think you guys are depressed because of the condition you live in or your perception of these conditions?

and what circumstances do you think justify depression and ctb?

eg if you heave strong health related concerns (like a chronic/fatal disease, addiction), social problems (like strong loneliness), existential crisis most people would get depressed...its not your brain its the circumstances..

however there are also people who are socially well connected, no money problems (even millionairs think of the celebreties) who also have depression (often from early childhood on) and ctb..in this cases id tend to say its rather a brain/neurosteroids/biochemistrical problem

Ah,this reminds me of that guy who only has a 7 second memory:

This man no longer has the ability to experience either joy or sadness anymore because of this. I think being dead would be better than this.

found another one

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/...uicide-attempt-wakes-unable-feel-emotion.html

Man who suffered brain damage after a suicide attempt wakes up unable to feel any emotion
  • Samuel Bishop, 20, from Plymouth, tried to take his own life last July
  • Was found just hours from death - and with extensive brain damage
  • Defied medical expectations to walk and talk again, and has recovered well
  • But the part of his brain responsible for emotion is permanently damaged - meaning he can no longer feel sadness or anxiety
....

He said he now sometimes finds it impossible not to smile - and even struggles to keep a straight face when talking about serious topics.

'Sometimes I can find myself smiling even when I know I shouldn't look happy but I can't control it.

'Then I smile even more and then start laughing because I'm trying to stop myself from smiling.'

It was in July last year that Mr Bishop, from Plymouth, tried to take his own life.

from suicidal

Just because you can't feel sad doesn't mean you can't feel fear disgust or anger? Don't mind me, psych dropout wondering...
