….so they're basically using this guy as an experiment. He was in a vegetative state for years, they tried a nerve stimulation treatment and he displayed sighs of consciousness for the 1st time in years, for example, shedding a tear.

I'd shed some tears too if I didn't have to be conscious in that state and they suddenly forced me to. This just seems so sick. So selfish.

"After 15 years of being in a vegetative state, with no meaningful communication or sign of emotion, he could now be clinically classed as minimally conscious."

"I said to myself and my collaborators, 'If we stimulate these pathways through the vagus nerve, can we increase alertness in patients in a vegetative state?'." Now, the answer appears to be a categorical yes.
The 34-year-old male patient was chosen because of the severity of his case. "If I show you the brain of this patient, you can see the left hemisphere is completely damaged.

We were so happy," she says. "We had a patient who was improving. We saw him all the time, examining him even outside the different experimental sessions. On one occasion, I was lying on his left side and talking to him. He looked at me but he cannot answer because he cannot talk."

Humans should not be subject to this. This should be illegal imo, I personally would file it under psychological torture.

It's disgusting to keep anyone in that state, disgusting and immoral. Let people leave this world when their time comes. No one should suffer like that.

This is sick. The quotes you pasted...
"I said to myself and my collaborators, 'If we stimulate these pathways through the vagus nerve, can we increase alertness in patients in a vegetative state?'.

You can almost see the doctor chomping at the bit. Maybe they can write a research paper about it and make "groundbreaking" research! God knows they're billing the shit out of someone's insurance or the state for this, too. What a sick, sad world this really is. Daria was right.

And just like that my fears of afterlife or hell are gone!
Everything is here only. No limit to tortures! These doctors may not necessarily come under the same radar of immorality 'cause of research purposes and all, but the normies out there are no different I guess. They are doing it for maintaing their own assumptions.

It's illegal and morality "incorrect" for human to ctb but completely legal and morally "correct" to keep human body, mind and soul kidnapped to be tested on like some experiment…it's wrong, just wrong

This is completely unethical, shockingly immoral, unabashedly barbaric experimentation on a hapless human being. 😡

Not only have they forcibly kept him in a vegetative state for 15 long years after half his brain was destroyed in that accident, they are now using his helplessness to treat him as a human guinea pig to inflict even more suffering on him. 😡

The doctors who are doing this human experimentation so they can write a medical paper and make themselves feel better are scum. But what about his mother? Why is she even consenting to such medical torture on her son? Even if they're able to "revive" him more, he will have absolutely zero quality of life and will be completely dependent on others for everything. People are so hopelessly brainwashed by religious and social indoctrination that they have lost the ability to think for themselves.

I feel so sorry for that hapless man 😢 and I hope something happens that makes him escape this torturous medical experimentation on him and that he finds eternal peace soon.

Me too. My only comfort is most vegetables die in 5 years due to their body failing, at least that's what the 1st answer on google says.

This person is suffering and the doctors just want to keep him alive to experiment on him.

This can happen to me or anybody any day. A car accident caused him to go into this vegetative state .
Anyone who rides in a vehicle or walks around moving vehicles can be a victim like this person and then they could experiment on the victim for decades.

Also stroke can happen to even young people.

So my question to the anti-choicers like the NYT is: Why should I continue working so hard to maintain a miserable existence and risk falling into an even worse hell like this semi conscious person suffering? For what reason? For what purpose? Why?

I see no purpose for my life . To me life is meaningless suffering .

There is no intelligent design of life. Life is just DNA . All life descended from a single DNA molecule. The article below shows how DNA formed randomly. There is no purpose. The only reality I see for my life is extreme pain and suffering.

Unbelievable. Poor dude. It's amazing how these medical minds only see an object of scientific interest, meanwhile a human being is experiencing what is undoubtedly horrible suffering. This upsets me greatly. Like another user said, I hope those tears are ones of joy, but somehow I doubt it.

The very idea seems terrifying to me, trying to escape from this world and end up in an even smaller prison. where walls and bars are my flesh and bone.

The questions at the article's end make one thing clear to me, I must make sure to make my will manifest, In the event I end up in a vegetative state or if it is necessary to revive me.

I want to add, this is why we should ALL have one of these (I still need to make one for myself): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advance_healthcare_directive

DNRs may be ignored if you are suicidal though i believe advanced directives are more like a will, stating what you would like to be done with you and your possessions when you are gone, or if you are left in a state of severe brain damage. i feel like they would be more likely to listen to those than a DNR as these advanced directives are something typically looked at once the situation had calmed down and they have had time to asses your long term prognosis
