Full story here.

This might be weird, but I have a google alert set for suicides in my area. It isn't some gore obsession, I just know that I'm not alone and I want to recognize myself in these people. I don't know who this person was, but he was a victim of suicide in my area. Posting because I'm wondering how many of you feel similarly compelled to read stories like this. What about these stories compels you? Personally, it's curiosity about their circumstances and what we may have had in common that led us to that point. We also have the same method and that gives me some sick feeling of hope that despite failed attempts, it is possible and if he can do it then so can I. Did he want to be found? I have a zillion questions and I wonder what questions you guys have when you read things like this.

To be clear, I don't want to speculate on why he ctb. I wish him peace.

How about this hanging case from the UK

I read the mirror suicides page sometimes, and others. It's made by pro-lifers but I try to ignore their usual platitudes.

Btw, care to help me about the Google alert? Didn't know you could do that. Is it limited to US?

Same, I guess they aren't allowed to publish for Europe.

Yes, I like to read stories about suicides. I also like looking at the lists of suicides on wikipedia. And other random internet lists.

I think it reassures me that I can do it and that's okay to do it. I am a pretty lame person with a weak sense of self. I'm suggestible I guess. So reading these stories is like a suggestion that I need. I especially like reading stories about people in similar situations to me who CTB (i.e. people with chronic illness/pain).
But similarly, I am easily discouraged by posts on this forum about people having trouble CTB'ing.

edit: maybe I sound like a shitty person, like I'm just making people's deaths about me. What can I say, I probably am pretty shitty at this point. But I will say that of course I'd rather no one was driven to suicide. But if they are, I am glad that their stories are out there.

Do you try to relate it back to anyone that might have announce their ctb here? In other words, there were quite a few people who announced CTB by hanging in the last few days… Can their profiles be traced to a potential actual account that you found online?

I find that with USA online Newspapers they have restrictions in place the UK doesn't care, here are another 4 young Brits who sadly hanged themselves, hanging still seems to be the most popular way to CTB. I must admit I find it sad reading these stories the youngest was on TV so could have become very wealthy but when I see these stories I am curious to why they decided to CTB and if it doesn't say what method they used I try to find out to see if other newspapers have reported it, if SN was involved and if there could have been a connection to SS.

I hope they all found the peace they were searching for, RIP.

Cheers

Geo

I frequently look up recent suicides from the nyc bridge that I plan to jump from. Just knowing others have jumped and succeeded gives me a lot of courage and reassurance, and helps me do the same whenever I'm ready

BTW, how do you set up a suicide alert in the area?

Where are you jumping from? For what it's worth, I'm in Manhattan if you need anything.

I will judge you strongly if you are considering jumping from the Verrazano bridge. That's just tacky. (Kidding.)

Verrazano bridge? Never heard of it. I'm planning to jump from the Verrazano-narrows bridge. *smirks

I wish there were more options. Even verrazano bridge will most likely get fenced up soon...

such things are either not very common here, or they are underreported (I am more inclined to believe the latter)

I do like watching documentaries, though.

I used to be obsessed with the make money online community, and the general train of thought was, find what works, and follow that trail.

I haven't looked as much since joining this forum, but suicide stories are somewhat like success stories, for me, and I periodically look to see what's 'working' and what people have to say about it.
