I'm 18yo and my mental health is in a really bad state rn. So I've decided to join this forum searching for some type of help (to die or to live). I don't really wanna to antidepressants drugs, like for a long time, so I found out about magic mushrooms and psilocybin powers to help on different kind on mental illnesses, including depression (which is what I really have at this moment). Anyone has tips to do it? Some recommendations if I have a bad trip? Possible consequences because doing this?. Thank you for your attention guys (sorry for the possible bad English, the Colombian education is a little difficult and I try my best <3)

If you are gonna take them, there shouldn't be rush. Study carefully what you are going into. The substance, what is microdozing. higher doses, and how to have a safe trip. Here is a some website you can search: https://psychonautwiki.org/wiki/Psilocybin_mushrooms

Welcome to the forum. Keep in mind that there won't be any guarantee that it works for you. You do it at your own risk. For some people it may work for others their depression may become worse. I personally believe that psychedelics can help with MH issues but unfortunately it is not possible to use them in a clinical environment.

I would read up on the theory of psychedelics. They are supposed to let you think more openly. This means that you can't just take them and have them work, you would need to be in a setting to build positive connections in your brain. The reason why this works so well in mental illnesses is because mental illnesses are often self-reinforcing loops that people struggle to get out of.
Anyone has tips to do it?
Make sure you have a trip sitter. And make sure you're somewhere familiar.

If magic mushrooms or truffles were legal where I live and if I wasn't prone to psychosis, I would definitely try psilocybin but I would try microdosing. You should do your research on the subject, it's a vast one, and you really need to know what you're doing. Make sure you're aware of the risks and benefits. Also, keep in mind that magic mushrooms may not work for your depression, that's not a guarantee. But yes, it can be a viable option as long as you know what you're doing and use reliable sources and info. Good luck regardless of your choice!

personally it made me realize i was right, existence sucks and kms is the answer.

but it also got me to realize my ex bf deserved better.

i personally find that it just amplifies the truth or what youre already thinking. if you go in it wanting to kys youre probably going to come out of it that way. but if you take a breath and really think about what youre looking for out of the experience

oh and microdose, tripping wont help

How long do they take to kick in and is it better to not eat or drink before using?

i cant really answer your second question. although its probably better to eat/drink. im indifferent to it, but i dont listen to that rule on my medication either lol.
for me, i had it in the form of a chocolate bar because i dont like mushrooms, but im also lactose intolerant, so eating is kind of a necessity for me.
typically with medications you have to eat/drink because without it the meds will hit harder. its probably best to eat/drink until youre comfortable with it.

how long probably depends on the way you take them. other methods, no idea. the choco bar i had, not long? it was almost half a year ago now (i had it at the beginning of the new year) but id probably say about 30mins. and it lasted maybe a couple - a few hours (2-4) but ive also been doing weed and have a pretty high tolerance. you have to keep your personal chemical make up in mind. ive been on weed since 19ish so its been a few years, plus my mental health seems to make a difference, so for me its nothing. but for someone else it could completely freak them out and last all day.

I microdosed fly agaric once and got a good mood-lift from them, didn't change my life or outlook or anything, I still wanna die, but I guess I do recommend it, fly agaric is also legal almost everywhere in Europe and us, dunno where you from though

I should have added that I bought them from a shop in powder form and measured it to a small dose of 0,2 grams a day, (you can also buy it in capsules with 0,5 g each) yeah, do not pluck them from the ground and just eat them without measuring them. That being said, the toxicity of them is greatly overhyped and they did help with mood in small measured quantities for me at least

I've taken acid and mushrooms several times (i've combined the two as well 2 different times). I even tripped like last week.

in my own experience it helps but it's just temporary; like i'll feel better 1-3 days max. Unfortunately afterglow isn't permanent

i would be very careful with psychedelic drugs... Especially with mental or moods troubles...

Those kind of substances need knowledges, it's not really to be recreationnal. We were using those kind of plant as medicine in the past but as i say, shamans had knowledge you don't have.

Don't forget that mushroom is a toxin, at a certain dose, it can kill you. It is not something to be consider lightly...

It's near impossible to OD on shrooms. It's actually one of the safest drugs out there. The main risks to look out for are having a bad trip or it causing an onset of psychosis (only a risk if you suffer from or have a family of certain types of mental illnesses, like bipolar disorder and schizophrenia).

which are one are you talking about? Yeah some mushrooms are even not psychedelic and we put them in foods with potatoes and carots.

It's not near impossible to die with mushrooms. It's not even the question, you just don't need to go there because it's psychedelic way before it so you don't realise the lethal possibilities. What do you know about the toxic dose, are you informed about?

I'm not saying he's risking his life. That's not my point. I just remember it's a toxin. Those kind of plants are some of the most serious one one earth. We have used them in the past. What we're actually doing with it is kind of childish, and dangerous. Those are substances that shouldnt be considered lightly and taken lightly.

Have you ever try datura? I did... You will tell me that it's nearly impossible to die with it too???

Anyway, there are some plants that are much more interesting and safer, and more pleasant. Mushrooms are tricky and i don't think they should be advised so lightly especially in case of moods/mental troubles etc.

He's 18, he said he heard that maybe mushrooms could help him as he's depressed... Honnestly it's creepy and scary to hear those kind of BS, many people are crazy, those kind of advice are dangerous.

od yes, however theres a lot that looks exacly the same. one is good, one will kill you. being toxic is different from oding. i feel they may be blanketing the statement a bit

This is a thread about magic mushrooms, aka psychedelic mushrooms. You can OD on them, though that's not very common to my knowledge, and they aren't fatal.

The answer is yes; however, a magic mushroom overdose isn't usually fatal.

Magic mushrooms are actually less dangerous than most recreational drugs out there. I'd honestly be more concerned about the nausea and body load, lol.

Also, datura is a deliriant, not a psychedelic. Experiences on datura are not comparable to experience on psychedelics, like shrooms. I don't think datura even acts primarily on the serotonin 2A receptors, though I might be wrong. I've tried shrooms before and I'm on them right now. They're very safe so long as you put in the prep work (good headspace, good environment). My main issue right now is just dealing with my nausea and vomiting, lol, but that's due to the chitin.

This site breaks down the different categories of hallucinogens beautifully:

I wouldn't bet on them curing your depression. I did LSD for fun tripping a lot at around 20-21 years old while seriously depressed and my attitude towards myself and the world never got any better. The lesser amount of shroom trips I've had are the same. I'm very skeptical about these kinds of brain/perspective reboot treatments for depression.

I do think the world is a beatiful place in many ways and psychedelics helped with that. It's also broken in so many ways that we as a society are not going to be able to fix it and psychedelics also amplified those catastrophising thoughts in me. The same applies to yourself. Psychedelics aren't going to make you forget why you think you're a piece of shit and all of your rationalisations for that.

I think you should also recognise that psychedelics and other drugs affect your brain just the same as psychiatric drugs. Being high is nice and makes your problems temporarily go away, but you also have to function in society so you can't be high all the time. Therefore you'd need to microdose, but what' the actual difference in microdosing psychedelics and using (which is microdosing) psychiatric drugs? In both cases you're artificially changing your brain chemistry to direct your thoughts away from your problems. At least with psychiatric drugs you aren't living on the edge of psychosis.

I don't really have a solution. Therapy is the most effective thing I've tried and it hasn't helped all that much.

Let's talk about bad trips.

First and foremost while I don't claim to be a medical professional whatsoever...
From my personal experience I think everyone should try psilocybin at least once.

However there is the potential for a bad trip.
You can however turn a bad trip into a therapeutic breakthrough with great ease.

If you start having negative thoughts and you're not able to change the subject in your mind.
Then just let your thoughts run.
While you may not like it, it's best to treat the mushrooms like a teacher trying to show you something even if you don't want to see it...
It may very well be beneficial for you.

One of the worst trips I had was something I don't want to get into because it might discourage you...
But I will say once I gave in and talked to myself about the topics, I was able to understand that I never got over my brother's passing at that point or my now ex having an abortion.
I have since been able to accept this and I think it's only possible because of the trip.

I know this sounds really intimidating however...
I wouldn't tell you it wasn't worth it if it wasn't.
It's up to you if you try shrooms just know that you can't run away from a subject on shrooms it will keep coming back to you, and it's entirely possible to have a great trip with a sad moment.
A lot of people don't tell you about how relieved they are to finally accept the things they can't change and then to have that same trip go from the sinking sad depths of the oceans to soaring on the wings of eagles in the warm sun.

But whatever is meant to be will be.

I don't think you will likely to have bad trip as long as you stay calm and ready, though I haven't tried that substance in particular so I can't give you an advice.
consider LSA as more accessible option, they may be not as effective but cheap and legal in most countries.
