thought I would try to "live" so fo at speak, so got a job, it's belong homeless people so it's fulfilling to try and improve this shut society.

I was doing fine, until first of all someone I hadn't met is now in. He seems nice enough but he always seems to make "joke" about me, and I don't think they are funny. It's like he's jealous of me or something and tries to like knock me down. I don't mind banter with people I know but this is annoying. It's just jokes I guess but I don't like it, and because it's work I can't reallt exactly go in a mood about it and be like "fuck off" line I would in real life.

then today I accidentally picked up my co workers personal phone as it looks a lot like our work phones, and had to come back to the office and return it. It was super embarrassing. I'm meant to be in at 7am tomorrow but I want to quit. I desperately need the money but I'm miserable. Sorry about the rant, I've drafted an email to my boss, not sure whether to go tomorrow and quit over the weekend, or just not go.

It sounds stressful what you are going through. It can be an awful feeling when you make mistakes. Some people really are so annoying, I cannot stand people in general. I hope you do what is best for yourself.

Why not bringing it back saying it was a joke you took the phone? Or being honest and say you feel sorry for the mistake

Hey man, I hear you! We've all made some dumb mistakes, you're not alone! I was an IT admin at a company and we were getting audited. Well I did a no-no and, using my admin powers, I would reset my password to the same thing every time. You had to go into the system itself to do it since it would stop you from using a repeat password using the normal methods. I got a very, *very* stern email about it from our managing director. I panicked and literally RAN into the office to fix it. I was so embarrassed to go into the office the next day, but no one cared. I talked to my manager about it and he completely laughed it off.

Don't worry man, you got this! I promise, we've all been there! I would even bet the jackass that likes to give you shit has been there more than once - considering his attitude and actions, I doubt he's one to follow the rules.

I did do that but my brain is so riddled with anxiety I think they all think I'm a thief (I'm the furthest from that) I was almost crying when I got to the office. I've embarrassed myself and I don't know if I can face it again

Thank you so much, I really regret it, it was a totally honest mistake, and I looked like I was crying when I went back (I'm male) so it's just awful all round. And agree I don't know why people are the way they are, I'm happy to have a laugh with my mates, but they are my mates, I'm sure he means nothing by it but I don't really like it

You accidentally picked up someone else's phone? From my perspective that isn't a big deal at all especially given that it was an accident and you returned it right away.

Oh man, there's was this time once when I was working on the factory's annual budget and someone told me to change a calculation and it accidentally messed up the budget by 6 million dollars and took 6 months to fix. Or there was this other time when I brought in a sandwich griller and was making a grilled cheese and forgot I was cooking and it caught on fire. Another time I was making sushi at my desk with a whole fish and was cooking the rice in my rice cooker off to the side and we had a surprise safety audit. Stuff happens. Unless it's malicious, illegal, highly unsafe, or unethical, generally it's not usually that big of a deal.

Hey thanks, that's very kind of you say and has made me feel better about it, though I'm still on the verge of quitting .I'm worried they think I did it on purpose and I literally never ever would, it's so far from my character.

You seem like a very mentally strong person to not be affected by stuff like that, if had done any of those things, I wouldn't have slept for weeks, and definitely quit all the jobs immediately, I wish I could be more like you and not hate myself for it

I mean, in the moment the 6 million budget mess up was a huge disaster and I did almost end up quitting because once we did a quick fix we realized the budget had been done wrong for years and I had to work 10 hour days for like 6 months to completely redesign the process & inputs. In the end, to a very large degree no one cares if you mess up as long as it was an accident and/or you put in place a process so the mistake doesn't happen again and you improve the system. Not completely the same as your issue, but similar tones.

As a side note, I've also learned to have this philosophy in friendships and especially relationships. Don't sweat the small stuff.

Thanks everyone, I was really spiraling, I still want to die but I'm going to stick work out to get the money to buy what I need. I know that person made a thread about this site being "dark Facebook" and perhaps that was aimed at me, but I can assure them I'm suicidal every fucking day. Again thanks to all posters, this community is the fucking best.
