When i thought of destinations to CTB, road trip sounded great. But a lot of us want to do it secluded and away from people. I bet a lot of great roads are out there in better other countries too!

There's a road near where I live. It's a long road winding up the hill over the moors with some great curves. You can see any oncoming traffic and hug the curves on the way up. Then it curves all over the moors till the next village where there's a great pub. I used to go out of my way to drive that road.

I've done portions of the Dalton Hwy in Alaska. Denali Hwy is fairly quiet as well.
But the best & longest route I've driven is the Cassiar Hwy through Canada.

McCarthy Rd. Alaska, 73 in South Dakota, 395 in E Oregon & 201 in Maine are also worth it.

Rural roads in Thailand & S Korea are interesting along with straightaways meandering through dunes and rocky outcrops in Northern Saudi.

Ireland/Scotland both look like decent drives. I'm guessing Sweden, Norway & Iceland have some good long and scenic stretches.

Definitely. You could drive all afternoon round the fjords and end up five miles from where you started. I did that in Conemarra, was great fun. Fast car, stereo on, empty roads apart from the odd donkey. Happy times.

:smiling:  indeed Canada is hardly what it is marketed to be. I count living in North America as enough reason to want to ctb.

I would love to drive around the UK, Ireland and Europe. There are so many old pagan sites to visit. Sacrafice myself on the alter from 1000 years ago.

I drove 14 days in a big circle around mainland Greece followed by a week on Crete in a little "Smart" car.

Two weeks across Turkey (Rize - Istanbul) the long way.

Another 2 week (lots of driving between safaris) in Kenya.

Quito to Amazonia in Ecuador.

All memorable, all full of quiet stretches of road as soon as you get off "the main trail."

Used to have big driving plans for Namibia.

In Ireland you'd be looking at more like 5,000 years ago.

The oldest building near me in a little over 300 years old. Nobody was out here permanently before that. Its horrible. A contanent of stuff built to show off, never to last :/

There were people who lived in NA over 300 years ago, the owner of that building likely didn't care for them much.

My ancestors were some of those people :) Im Metis. French and Blackfoot. They were not building permanent structures back then. I think its really just the cultural differences. Wanting to build things to last and leave your name on the land VS living with the land and on it. I think the oldest building on any of the reserves i lived on was maybe a hundred or so years old and usually was a white fur stand or something.
