I'm in a psychiatric hospital, have been for over 6 years and there's no sign of me getting out. I've tried all the medication, therapies, coping strategies etc offered to me and nothing helps. I have no hope of ever getting better.

I have 2 staff with me 24/7 within arms reach and no privacy in the bathroom. I cannot leave the hospital and all packages I receive have to be opened in front of someone. I can have visitors but I am watched through a door. I also will not be discharged for an unbearably long time, if ever and, even then, I'll still have all the same rules.

Is there any way I can realistically end my suffering?

I am in the UK if that helps.

Thank you

I've already been locked up twice in a psychiatric hospital, for my part the hospitalizations seem to be between two and six months. The lack of privacy, the constant surveillance and the food are simply horrible. I don't think there's any good way of reducing the length of hospitalization, it all depends on the doctor's opinion and your condition. When I was in hospital, I always said I was fine and that I regretted trying ctb, but I'm not sure it got me out any faster...

In my case it's in France
Why did you get in?
Don't try to hang yourself or anything else, with constant supervision you'll be rescued quickly and your hospitalization will be prolonged, a plus to find yourself in isolation (it's even more horrible).

I am so sorry that you are dealing with this. I know so many people are locked up indefinitely under sections for years and years and it's so horrible.

Do you have support from an advocate? If you're under a section you have a legal entitlement to one, although I imagine if you've been there for years you probably already know this.

I'm so sorry 😞

I didn't know if there was anything I could get ordered in that wouldn't look suspicious?
No point in an advocate at this point as

Herrr it's normal to have access to your phone 24/7 unless you're a forensic patient

This sounds like pure torture. I can't imagine how anyone thinks this is humane treatment or helpful in any meaningful way. I'm so sorry to hear of your situation.

I'm so sorry that this is happening to you. It sounds horrific how they are making you live. Unfortunately I've no advice and I'm sorry about that but I just wanted to say my thoughts are with you and I wish you luck in whatever you decide to do

Sending hugs🫂

Where I'm at, they confiscate all your electronics for the duration of your stay. It's like living in the 1980s. Very different world.

I think someone on the outside, a very loyal advocate for you, would need to "creatively" smuggle something into you, something that works quickly and is *basically* irreversible or difficult to treat, perhaps like cyanide in pill form. Obviously, your advocate would need to source the cyanide, not an easy task. Only other thing I can think of is to get your hands on a razor blade, or equivalent, and try and slit an artery.

They don't monitor your Internet usage and websites you visit?

Sorry for your predicament. Sounds absolutely horrible.

Do you know of anyone who tried Voluntary Stopping Eating and Drinking (VSED) in your facility? What happened to them? I ask because this sounds like the kind of institution where they force-feed people with tubes shoved up their nose.

"Mad In The UK" can't offer you an advocate, and they sure won't help you CTB, but maybe you can find something validating in the writing and art of other psychiatric survivors.

It is torture, and the most horrible thing is that if you want to get out at all you have to act "normal". If you get scared, frustrated, angry, or upset, that will be proof of your "mental illness" and you will be kept in there for longer.

So you have to become the worlds best actor, and pretend everything is just fine when you are suffering through the most inhumane abuse of your life.

I will never understand how the psychiatric industry isn't under pressure to reform...

Currently being force-fed as it is so that's not an option unfortunately

6 years in a psych ward AND you're being force fed as well?

Wow...

Please tell me you have a legal team? That you've got people on the outside advocating for you? (Family, friends, maybe Mindfreedom, or some other group like, as someone said, MadinUK?).

It is absolutely monstrous that a human being would be subjected to such treatment in this day and age! It should not happen!

Maybe we could help you somehow, get in touch with some advocacy groups?

I've got family advocating for me, but after 6 years with no hope and everything getting worse, I can't cope with it anymore

Wow. If you don't mind me asking, what are you in there for? For a suicide attempt? I think it's horrible that there are criminals out there who go scot free while people who have harmed noone are treated like you are...

They can renew my section yearly and therefore theoretically keep me in until I die if they see fit
