Not a doc but it is a beautifully animated film rooted in reality. It deals with topics that would be too painful to see in a documentary/real people format. It's close to my heart-

The Breadwinner

This is really beautiful.

Both of these documentaries are heartbreaking. I always shed a few tears whenever I rewatch them :(

My absolute favorite "documentaries" are the speculative kinds from the likes of Animal Planet and Discovery Channel. Unfortunately I can't find any links but The Future is Wild is probably my favorite documentary of all time while the one about dragons and the other one about mermaids were also really cool.

I one day hope that Dougal Dixon (guy who wrote the original book that Future is Wild was based on) gets his "Man After Man" book made into a documentary because seeing some of this shit on tv would be both terrifying and hilarious. :pfff:

You're welcome , yeah it's an interesting site documentary. killing cute little creatures and then a human being. Forever in jail he will be. Luca Magmoga and Im an artist. Yeah right.

[Potential spoiler re: Don't Fuck With Cats]

I'm originally from Canada and at the time lived near one of the places that that sick fuck (I refuse to even say his name) sent body parts to. Everyone was horrified because, aside from the obvious, gruesome fact that there were literal BODY PARTS being mailed to various locations in Canada, nobody really knew if there was going to be more, or where this psycho was, etc. I distinctly remember reading the news the day one of the packages was received at one of the elementary schools and thinking, "Wow, people are real fuckin' cute."

That poor man (Jun Lin) and those sweet cats suffered absolutely horrific deaths. There's an interview of his parents that was done relatively soon after his murder, and just the look on his parents' faces are heart-shattering. I can't even imagine the magnitude of their grief. Also, when I watched that documentary, I couldn't even watch most of the (at first glance) innocent clips of the cats because I already had an idea as to what was coming up.

It's a very well-done documentary, but I'm not gonna lie, I was a sobbing mess for a good chunk of it. This world is so beyond sick.

[Spoiler over]

There's also a documentary about assisted dying that (I'd assume) at least some people here are familiar with, called "How to Die in Oregon". I saw it when it first came out in 2011 and it really stuck with me. I'd highly recommend giving that a watch.

Does anybody else want to add a documentary to the list?
I'm always surprised by what gets suggested on the thread

One of the most touching documentaries I've seen is the one where Terry Pratchett explores the right to die with dignity. In it, they actually show a man who dies in Switzerland by assisted suicide.

I'll never forget that scene when the man, after taking the lethal drug, asks for water as he is gasping for air…

Every human being on this planet should have the right to decide when to end their life and should have access to a quick and painless exit.

I 100% agree!
We've had the capabilities to do it for YEARS, the fact our governments haven't given us this option and instead actively pushes against it is completely wicked!

Here's a few documentaries I found interesting:

Collective

In 2015, a fire at Bucharest's Colectiv club leaves 27 dead and 180 injured. Soon, more burn victims begin dying in hospitals from wounds that were not life-threatening. Then a doctor blows the whistle to a team of investigative journalists.

The Act of Killing

A documentary which challenges former Indonesian death-squad leaders to reenact their mass-killings in whichever cinematic genres they wish, including classic Hollywood crime scenarios and lavish musical numbers.

The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst

Robert Durst, scion of NY's billionaire real estate family has been accused of three murders over the past 30 years, but never convicted. Brilliant and reclusive, he has not spoken publicly - until now.

O.J.: Made in America

An American tragedy involving race, fame, the media and justice, based on the rise and fall of the legendary American football player O.J. Simpson.

Q: Into the Storm

From Director Cullen Hoback and Executive Producer Adam McKay, the six-part HBO original documentary series explores the origins of QAnon.
