As "lab grade" does not have a technical definition, it is difficult to say. You are looking for 95%+ purity. The purity is what matters.

Easy access: Get some of your blood and put a little of the SN on it. It should bubble up and turn brown very quickly.

Good method: Get an aquarium test kit. The have kits that can test nitrite levels in water. You mix up a bit of the SN in water and then dip in a test strip.
