I'm kinda surprised there is no thread about this meeting between Keir Starmer and Donald Trump yet, so ig, I'm creating one! xD

Now for my thoughts! :3
Keir Starmer says, "In particular, from sites like ummm... Suicide." He clearly didn't want to say the name (which is why he resorted to saying "uh" and being grammatically incorrect) but also clearly demonstrated his knowledge of it~ He goes on to describe how "young children" (I wouldn't call teenagers young children but very well) visited sites like this "where people talk about suicide and um... you know... uh... encouraging them down that road"~ so ig, we're going to be the whole scapegoat for this whole law even tho his accusations are blatantly false as any minors who are known about here are banned, and this site is pro-choice, not pro-sewer slide~
He then went on to say how his country embraces free speech~ yeah, right...
In regards to Donald Trump's comments, thankfully, they refer to the "TAKE IT DOWN Act" rather than to SN or this site, so that's a positive at least~ xD I find the fact that he cares so much about his own social media platform (which may still get censored if the UK follows through with its ban on illegal immigration discussion online) to be really kyute tho! xDDD

YT user, Fireglo commented, "Websites that talk about suicide don't make people commit suicide you absolute melt."
Also, a lot of YT commenters seem to have no idea what a "suicide site" is, which I just find funny~ xD

UK is rapidly moving towards very heavy censorship.
There's a big scandal right now about age verification, and of course the argument is to protect children.
When the government says it wants to protect children, everyone should automatically assume that these bastards are planning to introduce additional restrictions and that children are just an excuse.
Politicians only care about children when they can gain something from it.

What a load of crap. 'Free speech' is becoming more and more prohibited in the UK. Parents making legitimate complaints about schooling have seen their children expelled! People have been arrested at protests for quoting from satirical publications- like 'Private Eye'.

Besides, why aren't either of them more concerned about so many of their country's children seeking out sites like this in the first place? The children of 'my' country want to kill themselves. Not a great look buddy. Why do you think that might be? Maybe start addressing that!

Also, 'children' don't need a website to figure out how to kill themselves in more brutal ways. I imagine we'll see a rise in brutal methods if they keep trying to restrict information and more peaceful ones.

Besides, no one is encouraging suicide here. And, parents should be doing more to keep their children off sites like this. You'd hope they'd have some awareness their children were so utterly depressed/ sick of life to begin with!

I suppose to some extent, I'm kind of relieved about the ban. Maybe it will keep more minors off here. Or at least, it will be obvious they are having to be a whole lot more inventive to get here.

I wonder if they think we want children here. I imagine the majority of members don't. Even if we have pity for them.

[The Unanswered Q]

Will never understand why they're so obsessed with this site when there are probably only around 1 million people that are aware of its existence, which may sound like a lot but is really nothing in the grand scheme of things, and most of the people who are aware of it don't use it. Like right now there are, including guests, 1,400 people online, that's nothing. The most attention this site ever got was probably Tantacrul's video, and most of the people who watched that probably forgot about it the second the video ended. Ironically, a lot of the people on this site found it from videos or articles trying to get it shut down.

And it's not like this site is making people suicidal, if someone joins this site they were already suicidal to begin with. Instead of trying to figure out what is making people suicidal and fixing that issue, they just blame it all on an obscure forum. Plus, at most maybe 1% of the people on here actually end up committing.

This is kind of incoherent, but just trying to say that government's, especially the UK's, obsession with this site is completely irrational.

Rethinking it, even 1 million is probably a major overestimate.

Hmmm. I wonder if that means that this site is now on Trump's radar? I seriously doubt he would have been aware prior.
Hopefully this site will be the last thing on his insane mind!

It's truly pathetic. He's the leader of what was once the world's greatest empire, and now he's discussing a little-known internet forum at a summit with THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. AS IF HE DOESN'T HAVE ANY MORE IMPORTANT MATTERS TO ATTEND TO AS THE PRIME MINISTER OF THE UNITED KINGDOM.
