I went to a psychiatrist and she prescribed Wellbutrin for my anxiety and depression. Anyone has any idea on what side effects to expect? From what I read some people feel great and some people suffer different adverse effects so I am quite anxious about how it will affect me.
I don't remember even having any side effects from welbutrin, I think it was the one med I've ever had that never had any, easiest ever. That saying if you have any personal/family history or risk at all of seizures then they absolutely will increase the frequency of those. Which is why I had to stop unfortunately.
But as far as psych meds go, easy peasy.
For me the side effect was it fucked my stomach up. Like I couldn't eat. Anytime I ate I felt sick immediately after. So I'd flip flop between being extremely hungry and sick. That went away after maybe a month?
I'm still on welbutrin. I actually got prescribed a higher dose and that didn't have any effects. Everything's good now. It doesn't cure the depression or help with the suicidal thoughts, but it does give me energy. I'm able to have a normal sleep schedule and have motivation to work on stuff. Which has helped with the depression a lot.
Not trying to scare you. I'm happy I'm on it and it's really helped me. Just letting you know my experience.
I had slight insomnia sometimes when I was starting it/upping dosage.
Other than that, least side effects ever for an antidepressant for me.
Also only one that I had some noticeable positive effects from.
I noticed I had a less trouble getting up/starting my day. When I'm not feeling good I'm a real snooze/watch YouTube in bed until last second I can type guy.
They're basically stimulants, It doesn't cause euphoria or strong stimulation and I would rather feel discomfort if I take too much at time.
It made me manic as someone with bipolar 2, Kind of hypomania that I loved being on. Even with rexulti which would prevent me from going manic until I started bupropion.
I was super productive at time and It wasn't mixed episode where I'd be paranoid or too restless.
I was also taking 150mg of Pregabalin at time and I'd take 300mg every other day to get high.
Though I think pregabalin could be good combo with it medically, It should take away the potentially anxious side effects.
I was also taking instant release every 4 hours and 225mg of them a day. which was kind of too much for me, that could be why it instantly made me manic.
It's great because you don't get withdrawal. It's better to try the drugs that give you the least withdrawal first. I liked it. You might want to pair it with sertraline if you get up your dose, it's a well-known combo since your new drug can increase heart rate at higher doses.
Good luck, I just got prescribed the same med, I've been taking it for 5 days now. No effects so far but we shall see. I'm already taking fluoxetine and it helped a bit but I still have problems with motivation do that's why I got prescribed Welbutrin
My doctor said it might cause insomnia (didn't do that for me so far) and decrease apetite (it did, also I felt really nauseous and unable to eat for the first few days but I'm not sure if it was from meds or stress, I'm in a REALLY terrible life situation rn).
Overall I've read many good things about this med and it seems to be good for the type of depression I have (aka being very tired, no motivation, apathetic kind). If you have more anxious-restless kind it might not be that great.
I hope it will help you, good luck!
Also if you don't have any other meds, Welbutrin might not help with anxiety that much. It's sometimes combined with SSRIs which work on anxiety a bit more (for me prozac aka fluoxetine helped a lot with anxiety, and it's an SSRI)
