Jumping from balcony

Do people ever end up falling onto another balcony just a few floors down? This would be a big fear of mine. You might jump from the 45th floor, but land on the 42nd floor and end up badly injured or even paralyzed.

If the balconies are equally placed one floor beneath another, and you do a good jump, I think it shouldn't be a problem at all.

People tend to jump in a place where there's nothing to break their fall. If you jump outwards the trajectory of the fall would likely take you away from the the building from a physics perspective. I say all this not wanting you to jump however.

Do you mind pausing for a minute so you can tell us what's going on? Feel free to point me to another post if you already spewed your story. An unplanned jump sounds impulsive. I just want you to have peace and calm not matter what you decide.

I live in a pretty "repetitive" area where all apartament blocks are the same and crammed in so hitting another balcony would require me to somehow fly back which I doubt I could do in the 2 seconds that I'll fall.

What if you don't get a good jump off and basically slide off the balcony?

And, even if you get a good jump off, would there be any possibility of the wind blowing you back toward the hotel?

This reminds me of the suicide of model Stephanie Adams, who jumped from a high floor in the Gotham Hotel (NYC). She also took her son with her, so to speak. I believe she pushed him first and then jumped, and they both landed not on another balcony but on the second level landing, and again, they both died.

If you're interested, google her name and the story will come up. She was in the middle of a contentious custody battle with her ex husband at the time. This was in May of 2018.

If I were living in a high rise apartment or staying at a hotel, and thinking/planning to jump, I'd likely aim for going out a window that looks out onto an alleyway, to avoid hitting pedestrians and/or landing on a balcony, etc.
