I've had a bit of a think about this because I was caught hesitating at the top of a building that was probably not high enough.

If someone could affix a weight or weighted blade such as an axe head in such a way that a starfish impact would drive the weight through their skull, it may be a successful solution where a sufficient height is not available.

Thoughts please? Thanks.

I have the same problem, I want to jump but I fear it won't be tall enough and I will end up paralyzed

Yeah, that's a fear for me too. There doesn't seem to be any publicly accessible heights around near me.

Where do you all live? In a land of bungalows? I can't understand when people say they don't have anywhere to jump off. Makes no sense to me. How many floors do you think you need?

I've heard it said that anything 2.5 times your own height should be fatal.

Idk... the things I've read say 20 floors. I can only find a 6 story building that is open access. It's a car parking building and has hard surfaces below.

I'd say, from what I've read, that this will not be 100% success rate.

To quote lostallhope:

"Stone2 states that jumping from 150 feet (46 metres) or higher on land, and 250 feet (76 metres) or more on water, is 95% to 98% fatal. 150 feet/46 metres, equates to roughly 10 to 15 stories in a building, depending on the height of one story."

"Even jumping from seven stories can have a decent survival rate."

4 stories is 50/50. Anything more than that becomes increasingly more fatal. Also depends how you land. It you splay out like a squirrel then you fall at a slower speed. Head first is of course best but very difficult to overcome SI

Seven stories does not have a 'decent' survival rate. Look up the science. This is factually inaccurate

Yes, exactly.

Lostallhope provides citations for his claims, i rather trust that than a random internet stranger telling me to "look up science".

You could always argue what "decent" survival rates are. But when it comes to jumping, personally speaking, I don't want to be a survivor from that at all. 90% chance of dying and 10% chance of serious injury? I'll go for something else. I fear paralysis and locked-in-syndrome way more than my current life.

This is my biggest fear and why I'm still here. Back in May was my first "attempt" if you want to call it that. The first time I took it seriously. I was on a bridge looking over. I googled it and knew it was 130 feet down. I also read somewhere that like 80 to 90 feet is something like 95% fatal. So statistically I was confident it would be enough. But standing there looking over I just kept thinking "this isn't high enough". If it was just a little bit higher I would have went that day. I've gone back to that bridge several times now and every time I just don't believe it's high enough when looking. It doesn't feel as high as it is.

I can provide you with plenty of citations for lower heights too. But it's not my job to do that. OP doesn't want to jump from less than 6 stories so I'm not really sure what they want people to say. The only option is to go to a town with greater heights.

Yes, you're correct. A greater height is needed.

Terminal velocity is a thing (where an object can't fall faster than the affect that gravity has on it). If you fall from a low height, the shock (on sudden impact) isn't great enough to kill you, only break bones and cause damage.

Search google for "mythbusters water vs pavement", they had a really good episode that explained how it all works, and gave examples of damage from different heights (and obviously different surfaces)
