I've Never Used A Gun Before- Advice Needed

Planning on buying a handgun in the next week or so and then CTB. Any tips or concerns if this is my first time using a gun? I'm not sure I have it in me to go to the range and practice or take a class on firearms. I can't help but think it's not too big of a deal since I'm just putting it in my mouth and firing, but please let me know if there's other things that I should be aware of.

I'm waffling between exit bag and gun but I do plan to get a gun soon lest I end up going that route. Like you, zero experience with guns or interest in becoming super experienced. I will be getting a shotgun because I think that's the most foolproof

I was thinking the same thing re: never having used a gun before. I've never considered owning a gun for any other purpose so the thought of shooting one fills me with dread.

I would definitely, definitely, take it to a shooting range and practice. You do need to get a feel for the power behind what a cartridge and bullet can do. Otherwise, it is just academic and theoretical. If you do intend to use it for the purposes described, this will be extremely helpful. I own several handguns, including a 9 mm and a .357.

A .357 with hollow points aimed at the side of the head is very reliable method right ?

if you intend on using a handgun and can't get yourself something of higher caliber for whatever reason, i highly advise you to use something with a lot of fire power

also look up diagrams, to know where you need to shoot for maximum effectiveness

I'd get a shotgun, but unfortunately, I live at home and need to be able to hide it from my mother. I'm planning on shooting myself in the mouth in my car in the middle of the night in a parking lot though so I'm hoping that I'll at least have the time to bleed out if I somehow miss my brainstem. Can I ask why you're also considering the bag method?

Idk if this is true to be honest. The way more important thing is to study what angle you need to aim the gun through the mouth, for which the firearms megathread here is very helpful. Then practice dry firing the gun at that angle a bunch of times in the mirror - preferably multiple mirrors at different angles so you can really make sure the gun's lined up properly in all three dimensions. Personally I feel that if it's "academic and theoretical" that will actually make it psychologically easier for me to fire it at myself.

Bag method for a) less mess and b) might cause me less SI. Don't know. But I have the luxury and privacy of preparing for both so might as well
