i've dealt with disordered eating since i was 9 years old and was overweight throughout most of my teen years until around 16-17.

i have been on and off recovery for years, it comes and goes. sometimes it depends on when i'm manic or not, the season of the year, etc. i mainly deal with binge eating disorder with anorexic traits and tendencies, making it even more difficult because i have both thoughts from each kinds attacking each other & going back and forth. and on occasion i go through a purging spell for a few days or weeks and then stopping for months.

i've been on a binge of using dxm since august 20th and have dosed everyday since then. (not exaggerating btw) this has cause me to lose my sense of taste and smell, and develop malabsorption. this has caused me to barely eat, but i miss binge eating and the guilt i feel and then i miss starving myself for a few days just for a break from the binging and to feel clean and hungry, then returning.

so i will try and force feed myself and make myself binge eat a lot, even though it will mess me up physically because of my malabsorption and possibly celiac disease.

i will not be stopping my use of dxm, even once i eventually lose the magic from fucked tolerance . i go into psychosis every day from it & it's actually fun, enlightening, and feels so good

ב''ה, as the old DXM fan here, the effect of the drug and probably all that bromine in the usual hydrobromide form will dull taste a bit for, maybe a day or two after, but what makes you think it's a cause of malabsorption?

Something about it appears to stimulate the release of bile, as.. theoretically probably is good for some aspects of digestion, though I suppose could be irritating if there's existing GI problems / someone's lower GI is really sensitive to bile, but haven't known it to cause particular issues besides 'that's a lot of a drug, maybe get a multivitamin and drink some OJ / all the usual vitamin C and B vitamins for stress stuff.'

Tolerance isn't much of a thing after like 2 weeks but if ever slowing down I advise watching out for the '2 weeks after crash,' and if it's sort of therapeutic but there's ever reason to slow down or get off the roller coaster, like ≤150mg (assuming you're using ≥200mg as most would) at the 2 weeks after 'mood crash' point staves it off another 2 weeks in my experience, and from there if it's bumpy a barely psychoactive ~60mg 'as needed' kinda sustains whatever effect prevents the mood crash. If that's any help to using the stuff effectively.

If this is getting anyone else curious, just note that it's not a *subtle* drug, you'll probably look at least drunk or 'on something' while in the midst of enjoying it and, y'know, don't be driving when it kicks in.

i know it's malabsorption because i have extreme diarrhea after everything i eat, even if it's something small. also the way my feces look but i will obviously not talk abt that on here 😭 my hair is falling out, dry, limp, and knotting like crazy, and i have developed this red, scaly peeling rash covering my entire forehead. not to mention i havent been able to taste food in weeks. i either have celiac disease or crohns, i don't know if i should go to the doctor for it because i hope to be dead by the end of this week

ב''ה, huh.

Fuck if I know, it won't fix celiac etc. but you could try turmeric to firm things up.

There was a particular brand of cough syrup known for an orange flavoring that apparently is quite a laxative in full bottle amounts, but haven't seen that one in years.

Some folks are that sensitive to how much glycerin in syrups, never noticed that myself, or it could be that the bile promoting properties really aren't sitting well with you. If it's anything to do with all the drug stuff and not, y'know, touching wheat if it's celiac.

Anyway, I'll go as far as recommending potatoes with curry powder or turmeric capsules and, y'know, if you're downing the sugar free variants of the syrups those may have a lot of sorbitol as far as anyone's guts go.
