Don't get me wrong I think the death Scentence can be a good thing but I was watching a documentary about an inmate who was given lethal injection. He got to die a peaceful death despite his horrific crimes while I'm facing a potentially painful death when I've never hurt anyone except myself and simply want my pain to end. I wish I could be given lethal injection

Yeah, I don't understand why a peaceful death is considered a serious punishment.

Not always was that way. Some inmates died from the electric chair or the gas chamber. I do agree that it is unfair, but pro lifers call the death penalty cruel and unusual despite how peaceful it is, so it isn't just us being convenient for them.

Not all methods of the death penalty are peaceful, but you absolutely have a point. Assisted suicide should be a more discussed and open topic to the general public, at least for those above a certain age group. I can totally understand the initial reaction to it- hearing that someone is so content and willing to bring their life to an end can be jarring, but it's not something that can't be talked about and accepted either.
If individuals could choose their pathway out of life, in a peaceful, safe manner while being surrounded by loved ones, I think that'd be an ideal way to go. It's heartbreaking that so many individuals have to go through brutish and painful methods to seek what they desire because of such poor mental healthcare systems. If I could, of course, I'd rather have someone recover before choosing to CTB. Every single time.
But it isn't that simple, and one's life should be in their own hands. If a damn criminal can get a peaceful ending after committing horrific crimes, why can't anyone make the choice for themselves? It's cruel.

You are right, but remember that criminals on death row have to wait for years or even decades before they are finally killed. There is no peace here, we are all treated badly by others and the system.

To me it's extreme cruelty how humans are denied the option to pass away in peace, I see existence as being the undeserved punishment as it's the source of all suffering, it's a curse being trapped in a world with unlimited potential to be tormented. I agree that it's unfair, we shouldn't have to pay the price all because of other people's selfish decision to procreate, existing shouldn't be seen as an obligation, instead it should be a choice.

Yeah, that's one of the most thing I dont like about society in general. Also regardless corporal punishment by gun or rope is still not so much painful. The guy would die in less than one hour. I had more than one hour of paralyzing pain (my kidney cysts did burst and I had internal blood in my kidneys - was so hurtful could not go on my feet/moved very hard and had to vomit every hour). But knowing that it would end soon made it less worse than it was.

Society and humans in general (not all) are selfish by nature. But suiciding if you do not involve others and you do not have children that are minors and really need your care is not selfish. It's normal. Because your existence has more cons and pros. Cons that are not temporary and the will exist forever.

I assume that those people don't want to die at all, so regardless of the method I think it's still punishment.

Also they do not know when the capital punishment is executed, which is much worse mentally and that was the hardest thing for many. Worse than jail time.

If we assume determinism of "free will", which is a notion embraced by an increasing amount of philosophers, neuroscientists, physicists and biologists, criminals do not deserve retribution more than anybody else. Because there is no free will, they were pushed towards their actions due to simple bad luck – a physical chain of causality caused by genes, childhood experiences and other circumstances. Because there is no free will, there is no moral responsibility and there is no "just world phenomenon", which says good people (like us) shouldn't suffer and bad people (like criminals) should suffer. There is no mutual relationship between the two.

In fact, it would be even more unfair. Imagine a criminal who had terrible childhood experience which left him with no option but to kill somebody, and now on top of all that he or she has to suffer a terrible punishment.

I second this and it is indeed unfair. I think @FuneralCry has mentioned in another post that pro-lifers see life as something as being a gift, so that no matter how shitty life is, it is always a net positive according to the pro-lifers' perspective, which we all know (as pro-choicers) that is far from the truth. Life is a terminal event that eventually leads to death, and with sentience comes suffering. I suppose due to this delusional perspective that pro-lifers hold about how 'life is a gift' and how great life is regardless of suffering, they view the death penalty as a punishment, even if we know, objectively speaking, that these 'criminals' get to go out in a peaceful, dignified manner. Yes, it is indeed really messed up and backwards...

I have also written a similar thread to you giving an example of how it's unfair that bad people (criminals and those who actually caused 'real' harm to other people) are given an easy way out and are given death.
