You'd think that developed nations, especially the US, would progress further with this than they have but I guess not. I'm especially screwed on this since I live in a state that is massively against assisted euthanasia so fuck me. Instead of a relatively peaceful death we're forced to resort to barbaric and shitty methods to end our lives. Animals are treated better than us in this regard. "Land of the free" my ass.

the first hurdle of assisted euthanasia is getting it approved for terminal illness. I think that we're even further off getting it approved for suffering from mental illness. especially since most of society believes inherently that a suicidal person is not of their right mind

Unfortunately, you're probably right. At least Canada seems to be heading in the right direction if nothing else.

I 100% agree, suicide at the end of the day is just a way to end suffering. I find it hard to believe that people who have been suicidal for all their life are not of "sound mind" like we have though about whether life is worth living for YEARS OR DECADES. I find it hard to believe that they were the WHOLE TIME not of "sound mind" once, but they are "sound mind" enough to do all the other things that require a "sound mind" like drive, or make financial decisions, and be able to decide what to do with thier life EXPECT if they want to end it. Like jeez give me a break....

I agree. It's utterly inhumane. I don't see how we can view ourselves as civilized when we'll stand back and watch people suffer in pain and misery because- why? Some people of our species believe in something that others don't? It's kind of unbelievable to be honest in this era. Seeing as we APPEAR to put so much value on the right to determine your own destiny.

I find it absolutely disgusting how assisted suicide isn't legalised, it just leads to so much unnecessary suffering being experienced all for the sake of it, it's such a terrible curse existing in this anti-suicide society where we cannot just leave in peace, it's like many people forget that we are all just waiting around to die anyway. It isn't even legalised at all where I live as well, as sadly people wish to make existence into a prison where one has to struggle so much in order to escape.

Simply put in America no one cares about you. Even is in their own little self-absorbed world. No one gives a fuck. Those that do get stepped on and chewed up by society. Who cares about euthanasia life is great for me! American society acts all good and nice but it doesn't give a rats ass about anyone but themselves.
