  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

Everyone I know is a pro lifer & I want them to think my reason for ctb'ing was a valid one. My reason is childhood trauma, from being abused & witnessing abuse. But since the childhood trauma stopped a long time ago & my abusers have gotten better, & my main problems now are flashbacks of it & ptsd but not actual abuse, is it a reason that pro lifers would see as valid?

To me it would be. Any reason to ctb is entirely personal. I think the only person to whom a reason needs to be validated is to ones own self. That's just my take on it. I don't live for anyone else. And I don't die for anyone else (or their validation). Sorry if that's not what you want to hear.

I think that's a reason that most people who genuinely listen will understand. A lot of people who don't get it will still think that you should live and may take actions in line with that. They might invalidate or disparage your desire to die. Personally I don't think there's such thing as an invalid reason- your experiences are valid and saying "this is too much" or whatever else is reasonable. It'd be nice if no one wanted to die because it sucks so much, but that's not how life works and trapping people in suffering for the sake of an unrealized ideal is screwed up.

I don't think that pro lifers would see anything as a valid reason for ctb unless somehow they became suicidal themselves. To me, pro lifers are delusional, as the idea that suicide is 'wrong' doesn't reflect the cruel reality of this existence, there is nothing wrong with someone deciding to end a pointless, unnecessary experience that they did not ask for. Suicide does not even need a reason. It's a human right. Nobody has to justify why they want to leave this world.

Chester Bennington. He never got over his childhood abuse even though the abuse stopped a long time ago.

I heard Chester hung , you know if he went full suspension or how he managed that in a successful way?

I don't know if Chester went full suspension, but I know that his friend Chris Cornell hanged himself on a bathroom door. I am pretty sure Chris didn't go full suspension because it would be impossible to do on a bathroom door.

Robin Williams hanged himself and was found "in a seated position" in his bedroom. Definitely didn't go full suspension.

I feel you. This was my reason as well. Years of child abuse and as a result ptsd. Today I don't have to worry about much since we have a good system in Germany with pflegegeld, pension for victims etc. So I don't even have to work in order to have a decendish life. I'm married and have great animals and still feel like needing to end myself. It's tough when you see such cruelty when you close your eyes.
I honestly don't know a situation besides being terminal that would justify the ending of one's life in the eyes of people who are not or have never been suicidal themselves.
Kinda like the glass is always half full if you stare at it long enough. You know what I mean?
