Does anyone think about calling someone and letting them know that your suicidal just to see what their response is? Basically to see if there's any hope?

For me, I don't think so. I don't think anybody who's not in my situation will understand, and whoever l will tell won't dare to veer from the socially acceptable attitude toward suicide which is that nobody should ever do it. So I think it's pretty pointless to tell anyone if people already have their mind made up on this question and they won't actually look at my reasoning to die, and of course mentioning your opinions on suicide being a choice is a whole other controversial topic.

I think my intentions to die, for me, are a private matter that l will search for answers to on a place like this where I am anonymous and there is an open view on suicide. I want honest answers as to why I should keep living/why I should die, not temporary ego boosts to simply keep me afloat.

None at all. Based on my experience and what I read, if they are told, they just react trying to save you as a knee-jerk reaction, once things go back to normal on their eyes, they stop giving a crap again.

I remember reading about a guy who failed to ctb and his parents were all over him when they just barely tolerated him and a brother who never gave a crap about him was his new best friend. Fast forward a couple of weeks and thing were the same again.

Reasons to live: To make someone else more money, not be an inconvenience to others, pursue ways to get your endorphin fix.

Reasons to die: can't get endorphin fix, don't care about/don't believe it will be inconveniencing others, pissed off you're not getting that money instead.

Seems to sum it up for most people.

So the reasons to live are to be hedonistic and money-seeking while trying not to be a nuisance?
I hate these reasons :aw:

I learned it the hard way not to tell someone. But I just blurted mine out in a "episode"...
If you are eager to tell someone, I don't think you're ready tbh.
I can only speak for myself. When im ready and feel sure, I wouldn't tell anyone bc I KNOW for a fact they will try to change my mind, or something is gonna happen.

I wouldn't want them to try and stop me, but I would really love it if I could tell my loved ones and they would support me in my decision. I imagine overcoming my SI and general fear of death would be so much easier if I could die surrounded by friends and family. Unfortunately society won't let that happen, and we all have to do it in secret.

Hope comes from within. Others can be supportive in various ways, but that would only allow you to have hope. Lay all else aside and that is your real reason to continue with whatever comes next.

I just want one person in my actual life that I can converse with but instead my few friends live thousands of miles away and I'll never get to meet them.

Never. I have joked about it. But never seriously told anyone. I guess in a way, I'm too ashamed.

If there is hope that you will ever be happy is a very good question. I like to know it, too. Sometimes you think you can finish with your past and finally have found enough power to carry on to realize then that the wounds of the past are still open. It means time heals all wounds. I had believed that, but now I'm not so sure. If something can heal such wounds then I think it is not the psychiatric, and no medication but that one finds someone to whom one is happy and makes life worth living again. If you have someone with whom you like to spend the day and every second enjoys being together, the wounds of the past could be healed. I did not find someone like that myself, so I do not know if it works. But it is the only thing I can imagine to be happy again.

What do you mean by 'hope'? Do you want someone to rescue you from yourself or is it something else?

I would never call someone to tell them I'm suicidal. In a way I sometimes do feel the need to talk about it with someone I know IRL. Of course that's generally a bad idea that's likely to go wrong but I guess it's human to want to share what one is going through. Especially the bad things.

For me, absolutely not. I feel that this was probably fated from the beginning considering the downward spiral my life has been. The only hope I have now is to die peacefully and leave this life behind forever... and hope for the afterlife (if there is one).

No way. I discuss it with family but they support me because my situation is horrifically dire and ive been physically tortured for years by illness. But if its depression people are so less understanding and supportive. It depends what you want from it. If you can afford it and want to do it a good counsellor will listen and explore options to try improve situation. Telling a friend or family prob wont do anything to help unless you know what you want to gain? It all depends what you're after. More support emotionally? Access to meds / doctors? Just saying im suicidal could make things alot worse. What hope are you seeking that such a call might enable?

I agree, hope is self-realized. There are cancer patients out there who are desperate to live and clinging to a 5% survival chance who will try everything in their power to save themselves.
Maybe the hope is out there and I am blind to it since I have given up.

People can easily relate to physical problems. You have tests, surgery, a limp, handicap parking...etc. It is like when people see a picture of cute kitten and say AWWW. Easy, superficial and relatable.

Depression has few physical signs. One has to work to understand and be supportive. It is hard. That often leaves those most needing our understanding to fend for themselves.

It needs to be the right person though. The wrong type of person will make you feel even worse. When i was very depressed i just wanted someone to say 'i will always be here for you forever. Here's what we could try - meds, counselling etc etc. '
Who on earth is like that and does that? I imagine there will be some more inclined to be caring and supportive than others

I'm still searching, although I don't really believe there is hope.

I think it's funny that you can tell a psychiatrist that you're suicidal, but as long as you don't have immediate intent, they won't do anything for you. I told mine that I had a plan, for possible future use, and she just let me walk out of the building. Of course, I greatly appreciate it, but I think it's nuts.
