Is there any possible way I could SH my wrist without cutting deep enough to bleed out? Do I just lightly graze? or just go slightly deep enough

You really don't want to do that. Everyone who engages in SH seems to regret it and find it hard to stop. You should find a better and less damaging way to cope with your feelings.

I agree with sanitystruggle, this isn't a road you want to go down. I've been SHing for about 4 years now and I regret starting every single day. It eventually becomes an addiction which literally damages you permanently, the damage only worsening each time you cut.

Please find some other way to cope, and express what you're feeling without cutting. Whatever solace or satisfaction you think you'll find by doing this, isn't actually there.

Yeah after SH for 25 years I gotta say nah. I eventually did nick tendons and fuck with blood supply and got scar masses and shit; it's just not a practical coping mechanism. There's no way to SH your wrists without harming them.

I've SH'd for 9 years and it's not worth it. You cannot self-harm without harming yourself, hence the word harm in self-harm, lol. Evene if you try starting off by doing light cuts it'll eventually nit be enough anymore and soon you'll start cutting deeper and deeper. It's better to just not SH at all.

I probably should've worded it better. Whoops, what I meant was cutting and bleeding, but not deep enough to the point of bleeding out and dying.

Even if you start off with very light cuts that aren't deep enough to bleed, eventually they'll start doing nothing for you and over time you'll start to cut deeper and deeper. Even giving yourself very light cuts still counts as harming yourself. Just don't self-harm.

Ik this isnt what you asked for, but what helped me with it while i was in a ward is having a really tight rubber band around your wrist, like really tight. Keep it there for a few days n itll blister up and numb the area n no blood

I wouldn't advise this either. I grew up on a farm. It's how we amputated lambs' tails and testicles...

i mean i guess just lightly cut, but it might still leave scars, for me anyway, but they're recent light cuts so i'm not really sure if they'll stay there forever

As a harm reduction method you could put an elastic band around your wrist, pull it and let it go so it snaps back on your skin. It will hurt, sting or shock you depending on how hard its done but should only leave red marks

A lot of people are saying the same thing here and as someone who got addicted to cutting for years, I would really advise you to not start anything at all because one you do, it'll be hard to stop. Trust me, it's very addicting to numb yourself like that.

Anyways, you can wear a hair tie and snap it on your wrist, that helped me when I didn't have a blade around.

If you cut down the length of your arm, you'll bleed out. If you cut across/horizontally, you'll survive. Don't cut your hands off. Love you and consider another option so you don't bitch about scar tissue and pains like these MFrs lol but FR be safe and I hope you find peace free from SH. It really shouldn't be taken lightly as I'm sure you know.

Bite your arm, it's going to leave a mark, maybe bruise. In theory you can rip a chunk out of your arm, but it's not likely.

Just don't cut all the way through your skin and there will be no risk of hitting something that you don't want to.
I mean, it's a real weird question to ask in the first place and makes me think you're doing a cry for help thing. I hope that's not the case. If it's not, and you desperately want or need to cut- there are safer places, like over muscle on the back of one's lower legs.

The horizontal vs vertical thing is highly oversimplified. People can die cutting horizontally if they cut too deep and you can cut vertically and be fine if you're not over/down to an artery. It all comes down to the amount of blood loss, not the direction you're cutting. Also "so you don't hitch about scar tissue and pains like these MFs" comes off as very condescending and rude for people who are trying to tell someone not to self harm based on their own bad experiences.

You're unlikely to bleed out just from hitting your radial artery.
If you cut on your wrist, hitting an artery (or tendon) is a risk you have to take. If you don't want to take that risk, don't cut on your wrist.
